    Valve caps snug?

My previous 2nd gen died at 23k miles while I was out in BFE. Drove fine all day. Parked for about 30mins. Went to start - dead. Didn't even try to turn over. Awesome 2hr wait for tow truck.

Picked it up the next day and the valve caps were indeed loose. And the battery was shot. No explanation.

So I got to ask...what does the tires have to do with the truck being dead?

Call the dealer and see if they have a battery in stock that you could pick up if it's covered under your warranty. Then just return the battery back to them if it fixes the problem

Had you checked your blinker fluid? I bet you were low. Rough running blinkers can kill a battery fast! :D

On my 2011, my battery died right around 2 years. The dealer covered it under the the 3yr/36k.

Whatever you do don't ever give that battery a fast charge. If you do it will start to smoke.I have one but it's not in my taco it's in my vette. One day my son tried starting no crank no start he wasn't familiar with Optima batteries. Put a fast charge on it started the car but started to smoke. Returned it for a new one. Not happy with the time it takes to recharge even with the A G M charger My vette sits most of the time it's a show car.put the Remy Delco in for shows only. FYI only

Your battery died because your truck had been sitting out in the dealer lot for a long time. That's all it is. (Parking lot rot).

Noted thanks. I seem to remember hearing this before. Something to do with the design of them as opposed to regular batteries.

You guys sure are fixating on this battery thing. I know the battery is a weak link, but lets consider some other things. I'm gonna wait til the results are in. There was not nearly enough information to make a valid diagnose. Sub'd.

I don't think we're saying the battery is the one and only problem. Rather giving him suggestions on what may be needed for him to get his truck running again. IF it turns out to be the battery it would have to be the OP's or Toyota's responsibility to determine if it was an isolated case of the battery failing (which has happened before) or if there's other contributing factors that are draining it (which it could also very likely be).

Process of elimination. Battery check on a non-starting vehicle is a good way to start.

If you don't draw blood, you're doing it wrong!
I'm just curious...if they gave your keys to the wrong person, who's to say that you didn't receive someone else's keys? Do you have any distinguishing keys/keychains on your set

The only reason I ask is the keys need to be programmed to your ECU for anti-theft. If you are using the wrong keys, it may let you enter the truck and even turn the IGN, but it won't start the vehicle.

Just thinking out loud and outside the box. But, it is most-likely the battery or a bad battery ground somewhere.
