*THE RTT Owners Thread (With BS)*

It's a waffle pattern of plastic underneath. I had a bed rack for about a year that had angle iron on it the length of the rack to help with the weight. I think if you are just gonna dirt road it or highway it mostly you would be fine. Mine finally started collapsing but I think it was due to the jarring of the off road trails I do. It just take one good pinpointed hit to break the plastic.

The best solution I have seen yet are the steel or AL replacement caps that some of the companies on here now offer. Or simply build a rack that goes down to the bed bolts and secures to the frame. That is what I am doing now.

 

Yea I do a lot of trails... well I'll have to make due for the time being and add the bed caps to the list lol

 

So I'm looking at eventually getting a shell for the back of my truck and throwing another Prinsu Rack on it. I'd like to run my RTT on that instead of on the cab of the truck once I have that set up. What is a good shell I should be looking at that can support the weight?

I have had a snugtop XV and now have a Leer 100R. They both held the tent just fine. I like the Leer better though cause I bought it new and was able to order windoors. If you are looking at a shell, even though windoors cost more, look at them seriously. Every shell I have owned without them it has been a major downfall.

I run an ATC cap on my truck. http://www.atctruckcovers.com/ I got the heavy duty option that is rated at 500lbs. It is holding up so far.

 

Finally cleared out my garage the other week and tested to see if my truck would fit.



I think what I'll have to do is when I camp, I'll have to take off the 2 bolts for the ladder when I'm packing up. Then just put it back on the next time I camp.

 

That's a tight squeeze! Ducks you need to take ladder off... any way to make it quick disconnect? Even wing nuts and lock washers would be pretty easy.

 

Good idea on the wing nuts. Sucks because my actual garage is pretty tall, just the damn opening is the standard 7'

 

Id do wing nuts or you could even get knobs.

And i fell ya on the garage. Mine has a curved opening so i have to back in in the middle then sort of weasel myself to the one side to store it. Course now that i added the aal to the dakars i might be in the same boat as you with having ot take the ladder off

 

Quick release aviation pins would be ideal.

I have the same issue with my garage as the others. 7 foot tall door, and with tent the tacoma is 7'6" tall. hahaha

 

Hey MJ,,,did I tell you about that time I went to the car wash? Sign said "6'6""...cool. I drove in, grazed the pipe and figured I'd be fine. I just about pooped myself at the end when it said "6'"...and that's with no tent.
