Dealers are in the business of making money. Unless you have an in with a dealer that will guarantee you blue book for that 4Runner, and let's not forget to mention that blue book lists several condition values and I doubt the one you are lookint in would be quoted at more than the "fair" market value, I wouldn't buy it as an investment on a trade. It just doesn't make sense to me at all to buy a vehicle and then expect that sort of return. It's almost like suggesting the original owners are idiots and you will ride in to pillage their vehicle tor trade in value. It doesn't make sense.

ok, im not offended but lets ignore all the facts of what real world values on the 4runner are selling for.

case closed then, just buy the civic, just the civic, and call it a day

Things that are pricrd don't always sell for thay price. By that logic I should easily get 35k CAD for a SC'd Tacoma of my year and model but I'd never get close to that.

It starts correctly now, thanks to the best dealer tech ever.
I think he is offering us a better deal than he would others. I could be wrong, but I know this is a low price for it's condition compared to other similar vehicles. I think it might be because of his wife being Eric's customer maybe? They are nice people, I think he is just trying to be very fair about the pricing.

Maybe in Louisiana, but remember Jen lives in a state wherr it snows. She isn't going to get the crazy values you guys get in Florida or down south in general.

We don't salt our roads. We very rarely even get snow or ice in the valley, where most of the major cities are, including Portland. Lotsa rain puddles to drive through, but nothing else really.

I'm basically best friends with the local Ford dealer. Trust me, unless you can say the same I doubt you will make easy money on the 4runner. Again, only my personal opinion. I've seen guys make the same arguments up here and get burned.

They technically don't salt the roads here either.

I don't want to make money on it. I either want to buy it and drive it or not buy it.

dude, this is Jen we are talking about, she knows exactly what its worth and just because you aren't comfortable reselling vehicles for profit does not mean its not done every day.

my advice is sound and on point and Jen knows this, (she has a strong BS detector) and she knows there is indeed a great opportunity to make some quick money but she isn't interested in buying to resell so its settled.

I meant no personal offense. I'd love to see your book on reselling 10 year old Toyota's for 3k profit over a bit of internet information. Bottom line, unless the sellers are complete retards and can't open a computer, I doubt Jen can make a quick buck on that 4Runner unless there are a lot of extenuating circumstances involved.

Anyways, I again meant no offence, but don't overestimate someone elses ability to make money on an investment over the Internet. It will hurt someone.

Alright, back to the cider and politics my table is talking about. @keakar I'd happily raise a glass with you if you were here :). Discussions on here are just that.

we are all friends here sterdog, nothing you say offends me but I must say im confused why you think a vehicle is not going to sell for its fair book value?

every vehicle I ever bought or sold was bought or sold at its book value so if you buy one below book value then its not wishful thinking to say it will resell at book value bringing you the difference in profit.

its like you are saying the book value is NEVER what a vehicle sells for, that's my only disagreement with your point.

we all have Jen's best interest at heart here, hell she has been adopted as all of our little sister at this point, least that's how I feel about it.

your advice is sound and reasonable right up until your claims that a vehicle is not worth its book value. maybe your dealership connections have clouded your judgement because dealer trade-in values are often a rip off but you cant judge the market value of a vehicle you wish to sell based on those

I've never seen a decent runner or taco here in the PNW sell for book value. The damn things are almost always way over!!

    Isn't that right jen???

They really do. Not making it up. We looked at a 1st gen Taco for $15K ~1 month ago. Had 100K miles and a shady past on the carfax - multiple owners, a theft, an accident or two, an auction listing. Also had a brake installed for towing, so reason to question the transmission's quality. I didn't think it'd sell, but it did. And we tried negotiating with them, just to see how low they'd go on it, so I know they didn't take much less than that.

People will pay a premium for those things around here.

I bought my Tacoma from a dealer for book value (certified with a Toyota warranty), it's fun playing with them.

I also sold a car on craig's list, more fun.
