Building an upgraded headlight harness

Maybe I'm an idiot and just can't find it. I thought I'd build a heavy duty headlight harness instead of buying one from suvlights.com for 73.00 plus 15 shipping.. Seems very straight forward and relatively easy, although I can't figure out what exactly I need to do with the whole switched-ground nonsense.

I'd greatly appreciate any help.

 

why exactly do you want to do this? are you loosing voltage between your battery and light harness? i know when i checked mine years ago, there was no loss?

 

Just got a chance to check tonight. Am showing no loss in voltage at all. 14.16 volts at battery and the same at the headlight.

 

Voltage isn't the problem, it's the amps/watts that might fry your factory harness.

 

the amps/watts of OEM H4 bulbs are going to fry the harness, this is the first i am hearing of this....

i've read of people using these upgraded harness cause they believe they were losing voltage to their bulbs, therefore they would upgrade to increase output to its maximum. which is why i asked the OP the purpose of the upgrade. if he's still using OEM bulbs, and there is no voltage loss to the bulbs, why upgrade? spend the money elsewhere...like saving for a projector retro!!

^, but again, why? if hes getting the same voltage at the lights as he is at the battery, what possibly could an upgraded harness do for him?!

 

Using Silverstar Ultra bulbs. No increased wattage to the harness. I've been using Silverstars for a few years now and see no melting of the harnesses yet. Since I see no melting and no voltage drop, I'm with Yosh, why do it.
