I just bought a new 2015 Tacoma TRD Sport 4x4. I had extremely high pressure to buy the extended warranty. I felt bullied. Are these really necessary or just a waist of money?

Waste of money for the most part but a few people have got their moneys worth. I would gamble without one IMO.

you can always get it, and if you decide you dont want it a year later, go back to the dealer and request to get your money back

Dealers apply high pressure because they stand to make more money on the extended warranty than on the vehicle itself. Hell, I originally got my truck on a 3-year lease, and the dealer was pushing hard to sell me the extended warranty.

The extended warranty is underwritten by Toyota's insurance arm, so it's more like repair insurance than a real warranty. Just like insurance premiums, on average the cost of repairs you incur would be less than the cost of the warranty.
