Yes. If you have fully compressed the shock and your not on the bumps, then the shock is the bump stop. Not a good scenario and leads to the situation with that pic of the broken shock.

 

Yes, 881 can net up to 2.5" but you said you wanted 2" which is why I mentioned the 880. 881 is what I recently purchased.

I would add that the original quote you got for a grand would have included installation whereas the quote for 320 would mean you need to install it yourself or pay to have it installed.

 

Yup and that was buying the shocks from the off-road shop. I know if I set the 5100 at full lift, it's going to ride pretty stiff in the front. I might just have to buy each piece of the lift at a time, until I have all of the parts for everything to be installed and sense I don't have a spring compressor I will go ahead and let the shop install the whole lift for me as well as alignment. I heard they do great work and care about their customers.

 

No do NOT stack lifts. Your ball joints will hate you and it'llride horrible .

Your 2wd so do a spindle lift. And then get 5" lift leaf springs and longer rear bumpsand shocks .

If you bump up to 34-35s though you will have to tube the fire wall and cut the shit out of the fenders. No way around that.

I'd leave it. Looks great as is

 

I considered buying my lift one piece at a time....

Will put it on myself as I enjoy learning how to do new things and workin on my vehicles.

You mentioned that not having a spring compressor is a reason for you to have your suspension done by a shop... Compressor isn't necessary if you own a jack. So, I'd say save yourself $600 and do the install yourself. If the lack of a spring compressor is the only thing holding you back then just do it yourself, it's all just nuts and bolts

Also, if you were willing to drop a grand on billies installed by a shop, go ahead and drop a grand on real suspension and do the work yourself!! Not tryin to sway you or anything..

 

What kind of bumps to people generally run for first gens? I still need to check mine for any issues. Down the road I would mind getting hydro ones, but that'll probably be a while.

 

I too am curious about bumps. When it comes to 2-3inches of lift how necessary are aftermarket bumps on a 1st gen?

 

Spindles are a little pricy for me. I think I'm going to go with a 1in daystar body mount. I know body lifts are bad, but I figured 1in won't kill it. Any opinions on what 1in body lift kits are the best? Or does everyone hate them to much to care haha

 

I would say very important from a do it right standpoint. Too much compression will wear out a set of leaves fairly quick as well as the bottoming out of the shocks and ruining them
But if you don't wheel hard, prolly unnecessary. I still need rear extensions myself, just haven't got around to it. I'll post up pics when I finally get to that stage.
Daystar, and other companies make some fairly easy to install bumps, you just need to determine the height of the stop.

That body lift is the best as it replaces the entire mounts and doesnt just add spacers. I may get one myself later on.

 

Finally got around to mounting up my @HomerTaco Raptor-style grill insert. Thanks again! I want to pull it off again and paint the inside "lip" black but time hasn't allowed yet.

It will be a fun project for me and my dad to do. I do need to change out the front shocks anyways. And someone said they have the 880 but they had to increase the lift on the 5100 by a bit just to get a 2" lift.

 

No doubt. Need to do the front and rear bumper. Used some wipe on plastic restorer that wasn't worth a shit so need to spray all the black too.

Just don't forget the clear coat to make it look like its factory installed. My rear bumper is just painted with the base color.

 

So ummm, yeah about this. Do you think I should get new bump stops for the rear? Mind you my passenger side lower bump stop is missing entirely.

What do you think I should do?

 

Did you get rid of them when you put the new suspension on? I just drilled out holes in the stock stops and put them back on after I installed dakars.

 

I didn't. Had no clue it was even missing until we put the new suspension on.

Driver's side is still intact and fully stock.
