You're right, but, as the consumer, the reality is, YOU must initiate the action to bring the manufacture of the part you installed, resulting in a denied warranty, into the process. In the end, like many consumer protection laws, when there is a dispute, attorneys and the court system determine the outcome (paid for by you unless you prevail - perhaps).

Dealer replaced my ecu last month. I have welded on sliders and aftermarket lights wired. No problems given at all. I think it depends on a friendly dealership or not.

I think you are right and also what the repair is.

Not to be mean, honestly, but obviously they didn't deny you warranty coverage. Sliders and lights have absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the ECU. That said, maybe the OP is worried that his sliders will void his windshield wiper warranty and my comment is out of place.

When I was talking to the dealer about my truck and replacing the bumpers he warned me that welding anything onto the truck would void my warranty and Toyota would consider the vehicle totaled.

FIFY  Sounds better this way.

OP - If the dealer claims your warranty is bust because you bolted on some sliders just walk onto their lot and find the first truck they are selling brand new that they've added side steps to and say, "How much you going to discount this since it has no warranty?"

I think a 100% bolt on option is my best bet, because I won't be waiting for my (extended) warranty to expire to get some real rocker panel protection. I know very well that frame mods won't affect warranty on everything unrelated to the frame. My main concern is the known frame rust issue and it's potential clash with a mod to the frame. Not that I've had a problem with rust so far, I'm just thinking about the future.

If you are going to modify your truck to do things with it that exceed the manufacturer design parameters, why are you worried about a warranty anyway? ( a previous post referencing an ECU failure on a lifted truck would be the exception. a CV joint failure on a lifted truck could be problematic. )
