A check engine light is nothing, some guys are complaining after long hauls on the highway, if they speed up to pass someone the engine is pure failing after a misfire. They'll slow down then the engine will kick back in and it's fine, other guys claim they basically have had to stop and pull over right away. Although I will say the more extreme complaints are coming from people who usually own 2011 models. I don't see many coming from the newer F150 owners.

Kinda makes you warm and fuzzy about buying a truck that has problems right out of the gate. Had I done my research on the Santa Fe engine problems I wouldn't have bought it with someone else's money. But what do I know...sure was nice with all the bells and whistles.......sarcasm.

Edit: So if you get a check engine light in the Ford you're ahead of the game?!? lol.

Meh. Same with Toyota. The leaf packs will fail. You know this. The frames will rust. You know this.

    And we continue to buy.........

That's interesting, those are identical symptoms my Santa Fe had. The time it left us stranded 3 hours from home I was passing someone on the highway and it shit itself. I had to pull over and shut it down. Limped it back home to the dealership. They called me the next day and told me there plugs were melted and one was missing a large piece of the porcelain. Had to do a bore scope etc. fucking nightmare.

I'd be looking at the V8 if I were you. By the sounds of it, unless you drive the eco boost like a corpse fucks, you'll be getting the same gas mileage anyway.

I was under the impression the fixed the frames and yes I knew it had shitty rear leafs but that's an easy fix.

They have a 3.7L V6 and the V8 that do not have the twin turbos. I'm looking at those. I like the V6 because of fuel economy, I'm just wondering if it makes the truck under-powered. The specs of the V6 in terms of hauling and towing are just fine for my needs and regular uses. I rarely use my current V8 to it's full capacity.

It is interesting though that the plain ol' V6 gets only one less MPG compared to the 2.7L EcoBoost.
So why buy an EcoBoost? o_O Other than it does improve hauling and towing, BUT many guys get lower milage than EPA numbers (significantly lower) because they ride that boost all the time.

The 3.7L V6 (no boost) gets nearly the same EPA numbers as the 16' Tacoma.

Touché. But weak springs are less of a headache then an u reliable engine. BTW, I don't consider the engine tick a reliability issue with the Taco.

...and I didn't know about the frame rot issue when I bought the truck but research indicates it's been dealt with....no?

    Granted, I had a loaner. (Supercrew F150)

But I was without my truck for 3 months.

How many have actually failed? Are you referring to sag or failure? How many frames have failed (inspection, not performance) and how many were replaced for free? These are non issues to me. If this is as bad as Toyota gets, please give me a lifetime supply which is ONE truck, I don't care which model year.

There are good arguments against the tacoma. That is not one.
Mine has had zero problems along with many others. I'm not saying every ford has problems but are you implying none of them will ever fail? Every truck will have problems. Some many, some few, some paramount, some miniscule. Toyotas are few and far between and small easy fixes.

A better argument would be the manual transmission. I really can't think of much else as far as reliability.

You've actually argued my point here. Thanks.

As far as what I am referring to.... I'm referring to the parts not performing or holding form to their intended purpose. Who gives a shit if they replace it for free? They shouldn't be replacing them, this early. Period. Whether that is a non issue for you is also irrelevant. The original argument was that "Ford has all these issues" (insert whiny voice) "why buy a vehicle that you know has inherent issues?". Well.....my argument is that Tacoma owners continue to buy Tacomas even though they know that the frames will rot, and the springs have issues.

I happen to frequent other manufacturer forums as well. I'm sure I'm not the only one. There are PLENTY, let me reiterate, P.L.E.N.T.Y. of F150 owners who have hundreds of thousands of miles on their EB engines with no issues. (The original argument was that someone's friends, girlfriends, third uncle had motor issues.)

I'm just saying, the argument was to not buy a truck that has known issues (Pro Toyota Tacoma) when in all reality, these trucks have been rusting at an alarming rate since introduction to the US. It's been an issue. And Millions are sold. Most still on the road and running. That's great. The original argument was not.

I should note, I wasn't too upset or off-put by the frame replacement on my truck. I was quite a bit more concerned when I heard about the 2nd Gen having issues as well. How can this continue?
