    And...........

A possible third option, in between the price of the other two, at $13K!! :)

Apparently they found the key. And said they'd honor the lowest price online. Guess we'll try going back there one more time, because it IS a nice car......basically same stats as the blue Civ - oil changes on time since "birth", scheduled maintenance on time at a dealer since "birth", 1 owner, nothing funny on the Carfax. It's also a 2012 Civ, so timing chain instead of belt. Tire treads looked OK last night. Basically same exact car as the blue one (2012 Civ), even down to the mileage (~55K), except the color is black, and the blue one has the certification for $1K more.

One of these 3 is going to work for us. They are all good cars with reasonable-ish prices. Now we just have to pick one!!

@koditten , that finished deck looks awesome!! Nice work!! It's so shiny and new looking!! I love the way freshly built outdoor wood stuff looks :) That gazebo is going to look so cool!! :D Oh, no smart phones yet. But I'm guessing we'll get around to getting them sometime in the next 20-25 years, which I guesstimate is how long this car will last :D Why do you ask - is there something backwards about selecting a car based on whether it has bluetooth when we don't even have smartphones? :D:D:D :rolleyes::rolleyes:That's the best - we'll go to wrap it up with the salesmen, and they'll ask if they can text me info/pics of whatever car we looked at. I tell them I don't text, only email, while whipping out my flip phone. :D I get some pretty weird looks at that point, after I just finished grilling them about whether the car has bluetooth.

@keakar , don't worry. I promise we'll deliver soon. I even told Eric your reasoning for not doing his theory about waiting (that it will take dealers some time to get those cars out, and we don't want to drag this on forever). He agreed and we're back out on the test driving circuit tonight!! :D

I have a fun story for you guys if we wind up getting the black Civ. Don't want to jinx it though, so story has to wait til later!! Sorry Keakar, I know how impatient you are!!!

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Not having known what 2 you were looking at (too lazy to read back) and now getting a glimpse, I still like the Corolla. 3k difference to start. I do want you to know my mother in law has leased 2 Civics, a black one (Man, I liked it) and now a silver one and had zero issues (I love that dash) but I'm still going Corolla.

Yep. I believe in Civics big time. My last one was quite the trooper for the past 15 years of the abuse I put it through. They score perfect on damn near every car rating website you can find for reliability, nearly every year. And after experiencing their reliability and minimal repair expenses first hand, I am a firm believer. Can't imagine ever going with anything but a Toyota when it comes to our trucks (Tacos forever!) but when it comes to commuters, Civics are the winner in my mind. Corollas seem like great cars too though!! They are still in the running til we finally sign on something......

The cheaper price certainly has it's appeal though.

Anyone else have a choice of the 3 we've narrowed it down to?

    1) Silver 2010 Corolla with 87K miles for $11K; 2 previous owners, fairly good carfax history of service/oil changes but not perfect records, had that goofy computer reprogram thingy at 75K

    2) Blue 2012 Civic with 55K miles for $14K; Honda Certified Pre Owned so it comes with a limited brief warranty; spot on perfect A+ carfax history of service/oil changes/etc

    3) Black 2012 Civic with 55K miles for $13K; spot on perfect history on Carfax, no certification or warranty

    Whatcha think guys?

PS: Oddly, the Corolla (the oldest one) is the only one of the 3 that has bluetooth!! Otherwise, the features are pretty much the same in all 3........

I know, but you still wouldn't get that kinda shine unless he did some sort of nice stain/sealant though, right? I know our deck doesn't look like that when it's wet!! ;)

Nervous and excited guys!! Eric should be home in ~1/2 hr, then we headed down to check out one of the Civics!! All ready with our plan as far as the loan, carfax and KBB printed, we are totally ready to make an offer on this one tonight unless it throws us a curve ball when we drive it...............

And...............bracing for the creepy feeling of sitting down and getting all close and personal about our finances with a car salesman. Good times! That whole process is just so freaking weird, really. A perfect stranger, that you disclose every personal detail to after knowing them for a matter of minutes. Very weird when you really think about it. Especially when you know they are trying to milk ya for every dime you have.........

    do I win a prize?

I view Honda and Toyota as both equally rock solid reliability and long life but I prefer Toyota in most cases.

    but I love blue so

Hey, I'm all for you buying a civic. I mean I build them. But the 2012 civic is the worst one! Still a great car in comparison to other manufacturers in the same class. But in comparison to other model civics it's not as good.

2012 is when the economy went to shit. Honda changed their new model last second and cheaped out on a lot of interior things in the car to make it cheaper and more affordable. Example being the roof liner, carpets, and dashboard.

If you could get a 2011 or a 2013 I would recommend it more.

That being said it will still be reliable and I know a lot of people that own that year and still like them. It's just known as the less favourite model year. Civic nation lol

Whoa, you build Civics? Very cool!

Thanks for the input! Maybe the negatives you pointed out about the 2012's are why we seem to be finding a fair amount of them out there but few of other years for a reasonable price? We are still interested in a 2012 though, in spite of the cheaper interiors, because our biggest factors are reliability and keeping the cost down.

Nice to have you on the thread - perhaps I can pick your brain in the future for Civic stuff!!

Wow, I really love TW even more now. Talk about one stop shopping, this rocks!! You guys have us covered on all of our vehicle stuff!! :)

Yup, build em. If you have any civic questions just shoot. I'm a honda guy at heart who wanted a truck. Obviously couldn't get the ridgeline because it's not a real truck. Loving my taco though!

We are now talking ourselves out of the black Civ. It's being sold by a non Honda dealer (not a used car place, but still, not a Honda dealer). That makes us a little nervous. I know, I know, you guys are probably thinking we worry too much. But I bought the last Civ at a Honda dealer, and there was some peace of mind with that - and look how that one turned out!! A little trooper right to the end. :) And the blue one is at a Honda dealer, and that salesman was so incredibly professional and not pushy that we are leaning heavily that way (@keakar!!:)) over the Corolla and black Civ.

Just got another update on the Corolla. @koditten , you were totally right about the unintended acceleration thing!! I never doubted your thoughts on it, but when I asked the sales guy initially, he said it wasn't that. Anyway - he just left a message saying that the computer reprogram thing WAS for that, and that it's all perfectly safe and fine now that they did that. He also said that particular Corolla never even experienced the problem, but they did the update or whatever anyway since it fell within the range of Corollas that did have the problem. So now that one has moved up into the #2 slot over the black Civ, because of it's low price and feeling better about that potential issue.

Heading out momentarily to go drive the blue one guys!! Might be coming home with it if all goes well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D I'm a ball of nerves right now - shocker, right?
