'15 pyrite mica, plans to mod

Greetings,

I'm Nate, new to TW, first Tacoma, live in the midwest... love dogs... plan to use truck for travel, camping, and looking to get into off-roading.

So I recently purchased a '15 dcsb trd or in pyrite mica.

I'm creating this thread to keep track of / document added accessories and modifications.

Feel free to chime in, whether it be helpful info, or just BS...

Pretty much stock at the moment.

So the first accessory I purchased was the OEM bed mat. I think it was around $90 shipped.



I think it's great... After driving through a couple rain showers however, it has this shiny residue all over it, I'm guessing that will pass with time/more rain? Perhaps I should hose it down or give it a real wash.

 

Next was to remove the front mudflaps (left the rear on for now).

Pretty simple with the information on this forum, 10mm socket and flathead screwdriver. Only broke 1 of those black plastic pushlocks.

 

I frequently take my dogs hiking, and wanted to get something to protect the rear seats, but didn't want to get expensive full custom seat covers; and I wanted something I could take out when not needed, and easily wash.

So i purchased a "cheap" seat cover on

I'm actually surprised by how well this works.


Standard adjustable loops like most seat covers.


This white plastic cylinder wedges between the seatback and seat and really does well at keeping the cover in place; there is one on each side. You can also see the 'nonslip' backing... although this probably doesn't have much affect.


There is also an adjustable strap on both sides that goes under the corner of the seats; this does really well at keep the cover in place.

Overall, pretty darn good for the price; already washed it once after it got covered in muddy wet dog.

Nice truck... mine looked like that for, well, before I picked it up it probably looked like that. Have fun! My '15 DCSB TRD OR Pyrite Mica has already mud-wallowed, climbed rocky hillsides, navigated sand, crossed a few mountain passes, and even winched its way over an extremely steep mountain side. It's a very capable truck!

Nice truck! I'm in the process of getting a '13 just the same. Can you tell me if I buy two of these covers can one be used to protect the back of the front seats? I have been looking at 'hammocks' but I own a large dog who will climb into a vehicle but not jump. My thinking is that the hammock style won't hold his weight in the space between the seats, plus the instability of that won't go over with him. (big baby)

 

I'm sure 2 would do the trick; or you could by the cheaper version without the quilting to cover the back of the front seats. There are multiple other options, some of which will cover the entire back seat, floor, and back of the front seats...

 

Thank you! You have given me a great start on deciding what works. I like the fact it has two 'anchors' to at least keep it on the seat. Will post pics once I get something.

Hey guys! Finally got the cover. Things I like about this one: seat anchors are the type of little bean bags filled with thick foam on the backside which are easy to fit in the seats, but will hold the cover in place, it's waterproof, has grommets and metal clips instead of just plastic ones, but the straps on them are adjustable so it covers up to the headrests, two large pockets which could hold pet accessories (I wouldn't put treats in there because my dog can open anything), very thick material that will definitely stand against nails or scratching with nervous or energetic dogs or a big ass one like mine, matches the color of the graphite interior perfectly (like that cuz I'm a girl).

Even though you don't have to use the front straps, I it hammock style because as many put it 'if you have to slam on the brakes at least the dog won't be on the floor or in the front seat'. As you can see by the pic, there isn't much space for him to be there so he would possibly get hurt, not to mention 120lbs of potential joining me in the front or worse. He is also very clumsy and doesn't have a lot of balance in the car but I swear that's not because of my driving!!

Thanks! Only just starting, added a couple D-Rings to the front of the bed yesterday and hooked up my Onyx radio. Learning how to take apart things all over again but it's fun and there's a lot of good info here. Budget stuff for now. Working on getting weather techs, running boards, and a Darby kayak carrier soon.
