Looking at buying a RTT soon. Opinions on the cvt Mt Shasta or the Mt Hood? I realize the hood is a bit roomier, both come with annex. Anything else? I'd consider the Mt bachelor, it seems it would be easier to pack and go at hunting camp in the wee hours of the morning.

 

Mt. Shasta is a good size for 2 people and some gear, basically the equivalent to a queen size mattress. Since you have a short bed the shasta is going to fit perfectly on a bed rack and won't hang over the tail gate like the Mt. Hood will. Just depends if you want the hang over part or not

 

Any meets this weekend? I just realized its a three day weekend and I don't have any plans yet. Would love to get out and do some exploring.

 

im going to port Townsend tomorrow then fishing saturday/Sunday. Thought about running van epps but I bet a lot of people are out of town or already have plans.

Brian are you fishing rivers from the shore? I have a new salmon pole and waders but I need a new reel. Or oil up this older but nice Shimano reel. I wanna fish is what I'm saying.

 

Has anyone been up to Harts Pass/Slate Peak?

 

I've been in both the rivers and sound, both places in a boat. This weekend we are hitting the sound and going to try for silvers but I've been slaying the pinks this year. Been out 7 times and every time I've limited

 

Harts pass near Mazama? Many times. Used to be a bit challenging, the road got torn up over the years from erosion but I heard its been graded. Still gonna be very steep in places. The views are worthy.

 

I'm going to do the north cascade loop this weekend. This place is going on the list of places to stop.

 

I heard that highway 20 is open again after being closed for a while because of fires between Newhalem and Ross Dam.

 

Anyone have a Snoqualmie Hancock motorized permit?

 

I did last year. Their rules are so strict its ridiculous

 

I got it mainly for hunting and fishing. In my younger dgaf days I drove all over that place. That was also before they gated everything. When Weyerhauser owned it, motorized permits were reasonably priced.

 

You can only camp/hunt in designated spots which is what I hated most. And you couldn't bring any friends in your truck with you, all the names of people had to be on your permit or else you get it taken away. Although I did go from North Bend to Goldbar a few times, made for a nice loop.

 

I never knew there were "designated" camp spots till I looked at the map. That is pretty ridiculous. From what I can see, all their property is open for hunting with exception for the watershed. The map I received shows the land available which, either they reduced the land available for recreation, or Weyerhauser sold alot of it off to private entities. Actually looking at the parcel viewer some that is DNR land which is still accessible just not motorized.

The only thing I hate is that you have to enter through gate 10/11 which is just stupid. I live 5min away from a gate but its not an approved access gate so I have to drive 30min up to gate 10/11.

When I worked up there I had a key for every perimeter gate to the property. Was good for like you said, taking back roads from gold bar or sultan through cedar ponds. I had to forfeit that key when I quit though. Actually looking at the locks on gates today they seem to have re-keyed the gates for contractor access.

 

No but where do you want to go? I have a friend with a cabin on Hancock lake and can likely get keys to the gate. I'll text her and see.

 

I just got mine in the mail today. Just wondering if anyone else had one and wanted to do some bear hunting. Mostly scouting for deer and elk.
