Hey everyone. long story short my 12 SC 4cyl 4x4 turned into a 13 trd DC 4x4. I don't really do any offroading other than gravel boat ramps. anyone see a downside to me installing a 3/2 lift with block and strut spacer? I know I will roach the rear shocks a lot sooner but then I'll just buy a +2. They are cheap like 145 bucks on ebay. Some even have diff drop spacers. Thoughts? This truck needs to go up asap :) 926d6081333477f92b9a7e2521ad8abb_b4dc1ce1a9de3259378ae6c03009732ce0f6a781.jpg

As long as you are only interested in looks and understand you will have a harsher ride and your suspension will wear out sooner, you should be alright. Avoid the diff drop, it's not a huge concern for the 2nd gen 3" or less.

Spacer should keep same spring rate and even dampening on front right? I know the rear shocks will be stretched out further tho. U think it will effect the ride a lot?

It's a truck not a Cadillac. But the springs are designed to work with the full range, the spacer compresses that and you sacrifice some dampening ability. Depending on what your day to day driving conditions are you might not even notice.

there are many threads on spacers here. You mentioned the word cheap? That's usually what you get.

spacers on the top of the front coils do nothing to affect spring rate.

That stated. DO NOT GO THIS ROUTE. You can bottom the shock out before hitting bumpstop. This will break the shock.

You can spend ~ 450 bucks for an AAL and 5100's all 4 corners set the front at 1.75 with stock coils and have a nice slightly firmer ride without suspension that is not going to function at its extremes.

Tons of people use spacers. I don't see herds of people posting about blown/bent/broken shocks. Actually, I can't seem to find ANY. Unless you're pushing your suspension to its limits you don't have anything to worry about with using spacers. If you're pushing your truck THAT hard I'd avoid the overrated 5100's and go with a nice mid-travel setup.

something critical such as your suspension, brakes or tires is something you should not go "cheap" on. Save your money and do it "right" the first time, you don't have to spend a fortune but atleast stay away from the spacer lift

That was DEFINITELY not caused by daily driving lol. I've seen pictures of broken 5100's. That doesn't mean they're the devil. I've read a lot of people with leaking 5100's. That still doesn't mean they're all bad.

Tens of thousands of people run spacers with no issues(myself included). No matter what suspension you have, if you off-road HARD you will eventually break shit.

As you can see, 5100's are dangerous and break easily. Stay away from them. Do it RIGHT the first time.

Look man, as a veteran of taco lifts... having used everything from the worst to now the best.... stay away from spacers. Spend 450$ and do it the right way (actually just the simply better way) the right way is more than you wanna spend. Seriously. You'll tha k me later when you hit a pot hole and don't blow your front end out causing you to crash and bodily injury. Right way the first time....

Yes actually love it when new people get on here and claim to know everything.... fyi I was a firefighter emt and it was a guy driving home from work on river road Louisiana. Hits a lot hole, breaks the passenger side shock and snaps the coil due to overload and hits a telephone pole. 4 broken ribs, hemp neumo, minor tbi, but he's fine now...

This was directly caused by a spacer lift? Surely this was documented and you're not just talking out of your ass, spreading gossip like a teenaged girl?

Who is claiming to know everything? I'm just sick of seeing people talk about spacers like they're soooo much worse than shitty 5100's which people break all the time. A lot of bandwagon leg humpers here...

If you want to ever use said lift, just skip the spacers, not only will it be cheaper to do properly the first time, it won't cost an arm and a few toes to fix once you realize putting a 100$ lift on a 30k truck might not have been such a flash of brilliance.

I never understood how people will spend 30K+ on a vehicle, then go cheap on a vital upgrade (suspension)

Actually it was directly caused by the spacer lift per the investigation of the insurance company. Like omg totally wanna take a selfie?
