Hey guys, I'm new here and haven't done that much exploring. I recently purchased a 2015 Tacoma Double Cab V6 4x4 6 Speed Manual. I'm currently breaking in the new truck, so I haven't had a chance to take it to its full potential. My question is, which version of the same Tacoma is faster in acceleration (i.e. 0-60 mph and 1/4 mile)? 5 speed automatic or 6 speed manual?

The automatic. It will always keep the lowest gear for most power at WOT, and it can shift faster than a human can.

Auto is also rated at +2mpg.

So even under perfect conditions with a perfect driver the Automatic will still be faster? What about if I got the TRD Short Shifter? I also notice my truck revs higher at the same speed of the automatic that I test drove.

I'm not too concerned about fuel. I mostly do highway driving.

Maybe I'm wrong. But I did ask a question so please correct me if I'm wrong! The 6 speed has 1 more gear, so therefore the gear ratios are shorter (closer) which keeps the engine speed and hp high to maximize hp at all times. Also doesn't the automatic lose more power through the drivetrain due to the tq converter, as opposed to a clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel clamping down to maximize more power? And lastly isn't the manual a bit lighter than the auto?

Auto likes to hunt for gears too much on inclines unless you throw it in 4. I fixed that issue on mine and the trucks shifts are way smoother and has zero hunt now. Of course I still manually shift it because I have ADHD or something, but I digress. Point is, I'm very very happy with my AT Tacoma now more than I was before, both with and without the supercharger.

You will stay within closer within the engines powerband due to the shorter gears on your manual vs. an auto. Good for you but speaking economically from a fuel standpoint you will lose some MPG because of the higher RPM as well.

Fat chicks... They love manual transmissions. They will car jack you in a heartbeat. If you are lucky enough to get it back, it is covered in fast food wrappers and diet coke cans. Autos, not so much! I wanted manual, but it seems they are more prone to problems than the auto. Many throw out bearing threads on the TW, too many! Well that and the fat chick car thieving!

Atomic powered engine swap, because spaceship.
I'd like to tell a short story - the 2010 Subaru wrx had a faster 0-60 than the Sti. How could a car with 60 more HP be beaten by its little brother? One was a 5 speed and the other a 6. It took one extra gear change in the sti and on paper the wrx was faster.

IN-E-WAYS, manuals are my favorite, but it's like texting. It's slower, more focus, and time consuming. Besides, these trucks are horrible at 0-60 runs.

Just the idea that we are even talking about their performance tells you that midsize trucks are getting more carlike. The biggest differences in the new Tavoma exist in it's on road performance.....mileage, acceleration, ride and handling. These are things most trucks are hardly noted for yet now, most drivers expert them. If midsize trucks were actually used like trucks all the time instead of commuting, they would sell more four cylinders trash haulers.
