Test drive both before making a decision. From what I read here, the 6-speed in the Taco feels pretty bad. Not sure if the Frontier 6-speed is better or worse.

The Taco's ergonomics is much better than the Frontier's (more supportive seats, closer pedal spacing, gated auto shifter, etc.)

Nissan's suck... and it will be worth about $2000 the second you drive it off of the lot.

Thanks for the advice. I may just bite the bullet and get an AT. Seems like a lot more people like driving the Taco with an AT over the manual anyway.

If it was a race car, then absolutely get a manual trans. I have had 2 trucks with a stick shift. Loved them but the issue is that the way they are geared, you are shifting out of first and out of second so quickly... it just becomes more annoying than anything else. You also tend to use more fuel.

I drove a Juke for a year. Only traded it in because I realized I'm not a car guy. I ended up losing only about 2 K on the deal. Nissans hold their value just fine. Not Tacoma amazing, but let's face it, nothing in the Toyota line up holds value like a Tacoma either. Tacoma is number one in resale, so the comparison is a bit difficult at best to make with anything else.

The Juke was a fun car to drive. The looks attracted comments and conversation which was fun. I never had an issue with it and due to a lot of trips to my divorce lawyer it had 30k on it when traded.

Honestly, I'm not sure why a cat fight has to be started over every Tacoma comparison by a bunch of little girls. If the Tacoma is so much better in the test drive then it will prove itself, like it did for me. No need to drag out all of your mental problems on the internet trying to protect something that doesn't need protection.

I like the TRD seats in my truck. Good lumbar support and good thigh support (not too little and not too much that it hurts my knees). Good lateral support too, for a truck. The SR5 seats in 2nd gens are reportedly not as good, though I haven't sat in one for extended periods.

Make sure you have your seats and steering wheel adjusted correctly. From one of my earlier posts:

I like the fact that the seat/steering wheel/pedals/shifter placement in the 2nd gen Taco is similar to other Toyota cars. e.g. I can go from a Camry to a Taco and maintain the same driving position, just with everything at a higher "altitude".

That would be guess work as no one has one yet and the way it's is new for this year. Most reviews I've watched/read say it's very good with even torque that comes on early. My '14 Avalon has a 6 speed AT and its great, shifts smooth as silk.

^I'm talking about the 6-speed manual in the current 2nd gen V6, in reply to BernR6. Based on the ratios, the upcoming 6-speed AT will effectively work like the current 5-speed A750E/F auto with an extra tall 6th gear for highway cruising.

I would say the seats in the Frontier are better than the SR5's (which suck) but worst than TRD's in comfort. They are better than the Tacoma's in seating position unless you like the car like position of the Tacoma (not a huge fan here). The Frontiers are more like a traditional truck in position and stance.

I sat in the TRD seats on the third gen and I didn't feel much of a difference from second gen aside from fabric.

I had a Nissan Frontier Pro-4X (2011 model) - I had it less than a year and traded it. It looked good on paper, and I wanted to like it, but it wasn't for me. I bought it instead of a Tacoma because the Toyota dealers wouldn't deal and I was having a hard time finding a 4x4 Tacoma (Fort Worth area)

    Dislikes:

Brakes felt poor (brake feel, not stopping performance. If you stood on the pedal it would stop)
Seats were uncomfortable - on a long trip I would be numb - couldn't get comfy.
Factory Rockford Fosgate sound system SUCKED - way too much bass in everything - couldn't get it tuned right.
Gas mileage - best tank EVER on the Frontier was 19 - I usually got about 16 - 16.5. Stock.
Rear seats - back of seat was almost straight up and down, and getting in was hard
Turning radius - seemed to take WAY too much room to turn and was not easy to park

My moms 2014 NISSAN Altima had to get the transmission replaced at 21,000 miles.
    Let that sink in.
It was replaced for free by the dealership, but it took lots of time and frustration. I would love the car if it didn't have so many problems with it.

Consumer Reports have said the newly redesigned Nissans have a much higher incidence of issues than models that haven't been redesigned in years (e.g. Frontier, X Terra, Armada). I would be wary if buying a remodelled Nissan.
