I've had both the 6 speed and the auto. The manual was a AC 2011 trd offroad and the auto (my current truck) is a DCLB 2013 sport. The auto is definitely much more responsive and snappy then the manual was. Manual was fun, but was clunky and slow.

The automatic will always be quicker but if you enjoy banging your own gears the driving experience just isn't the same. I don't have a short shifter yet, but whenever I do get around to it'll be a Hurst/Core shifter and not a TRD or URD shifter just for durability purposes. I will say the best upgrade for the 6 speed is Redline MT-90. Quiets the gearbox down a lot and smooths out some of the notchiness.

For what it's worth the Tacoma is slow and asking which one is faster is kind of funny. On the flip side for a medium size pickup the Tacoma handles really good and you can out drive people in even small cars who think the only inputs they need to master is accelerator and brakes. It's all about weight transfer and steering ;)

My truck is brand new with 645 miles. I recently traded in my 2015 same truck but 2wd automatic. Im in the hole about 6k. They gave me a really good trade in value on my other truck. It only had 13.5k on the clock. I'm not so much worried about trade in. Im worried more about what will make me happy. And if i did trade it would be on a brand new truck. But i just gotta find the exact one that i want. I had this Manual shipped from Modern Toyota in Boone to Florida. But hey if it means me tradingto an automatic 4x4 i wouldnt mind. But i really do love the manual! Just cant wait to get on er!

I thought manual transmissions were the best theft deterrent as most thieves can't drive one.

Keep the 6 speed, it's cool.

Naaaaah. Manuals are easier to steal. Break a window. Jump in. Release the E-Brake. Pop in in neutral. And push that b*tch... :p

Definitely. My auto is much quicker to get up to speed on the highway and on on ramps. I've even been creeping down the road to a red light, then it went green and I slammed the gas. It down shifted and chirps the tires, which surprised me. To me it was a big difference going to the auto. I always felt the tacoma was slow when I had the manual, and I just delt with it because I liked the rest of the truck. Little did I know what kind of a difference it would be going to an auto, which sounds strange because most of the time it's the other way around. Ive always had manuals up to this point, but I certainly prefer the auto tacoma.

I'm still confused by this??? If you are concerned with 0-60 speeds then I think you made a mistake buying a truck at all. That being said the real question is what did you buy the truck for? If it's only for commuting and you plan on sitting in a lot of stop and go traffic the Auto would be the only way to go. If if more for just general driving and hauling stuff on occasion its really a personal preference, I for one love my 6 speed and wouldn't trade it for anything. If you plan to use it to wheel there are some benefits and downsides to each; the manual can make for a more hands on, challenge in certain scenarios where the computer controls on the auto can help out and make it a little easier to get past some obstacles.

I bought the truck for the job that i do. The most reliable truck that i could find is toyota. And i do a lot of driving so i da*m sure couldnt afford to run a tundra everyday. I had a automatic in the same cab and package but it was 2wd and rather boring so i traded up for this 6sp 4x4. I love these trucks i just want the right one. But it has to be sport package 4x4 i am just stuck between manual and auto. I do a lot of highway driving so the manual doesnt bother me any. I just want the fastest one.
