Meh, try more like 2-3 years ago. I bought mine online a year ago after searching for the lowest price for a good 3 months, Totoya of Dallas shipped to my door for $4300 was by far the cheapest, including ebay. I think I ONCE saw just a main unit going for about $3750 but there was no buy it now and it had just posted and already had a boat load of bids on it.

But I do remember like 2-3 years ago when people were getting them for even cheaper than what I did. Hell, Toyota of Dallas was selling them for like $3800 with fit kit shipped until Big Toyota upped the MSRP on them, forcing ToD to do the same

Does the URD charger void warranties? Anyone out of warranty for sure should go URD over TRD at these prices. TRD wont even get you to 300 wheel HP. Old post from Gadget at URD:

    (I highlighted the important stuff)
So people are paying 10k or more to get maybe 260 RWHP with the TRD supercharger when they could get up to 440 RWHP with the stage 3 URD for $7500??!! That's 200 more HP for thousands less. I get the centrifugal vs roots dynamic especially for towing but the gains with the TRD no longer justify the price.

Most people don't own a pre-08', so theres no URD SC for us until Gadget finally gets around to making a harness for UCONN.

Also, TRD SC comes with some sort of a warranty depending on who installs it, and it wasn't really designed with Go-fast in mind.

I didn't pay that. Yea, folks spend a lot because they can. You got a rock crawler and want low end torque and bolt on? Or you want a truck to go silly fast and not desert race. I see no reason for that, the logic is silly. Or like me you needed a bit more for my Home Depot Mall crawler? It's worth it. I agree 10k is getting a bit silly. You ever hear about the Care Bear Craze? Or the ammunition frenzy? No worries. Buy what you need or don't.

Logically it is a waste of 6k for me too, hehe. Only money, cash and no payments on truck either....

URD also has a bit of history of blowing motors with the higher end power stuff and then claiming they've "never heard of that problem before". I've seen that comment too many times on this thread when it comes to URD. Also, last time I actually cared enough to browse around XRU, you find IRL most of the stage 2 and 3 URD trucks are pulling similar times to the TRD with the upgrades Gadget mentioned. So, while you might be getting that extra "x" horsepower up top Gadget claims, you aren't making enough more down low to effect track times. Which is sad.

At the end of the day you MAY end up with a faster truck with the URD stage 3 then the same money as a TRD. You might also end up needing a new engine after 20,000 miles with the URD stage 3. Pick your poison. Everything has a cost, and URD's seems to be paid with the engine if you go with their higher output packages.

I really want to eventually get the UCON from URD to tune my TRD S/C, but I'm not the huge fan of URD I might of been a few years ago after all the comments I've heard about support issues from them.

The only engines that URD has blown up was SuperWerty's IIRC and that was because he raised his max RPM level beyond safe limits. That's been said before in one of these many Supercharger Threads.

Excuse my ignorance, but does anyone know if the first gen Tacoma superchargers were discontinued also?

I just want confirmation as to what I am hearing that I suspect sounds like when under boost. To me it sounds like a power steering pump which is low,on fluid when you turn the wheel. I know with a turbo, all you really hear is the whine of the turbo, but this is new to me with the supercharger. What should it sound like?

You mean the whine? Or the slight grinding sound? Both normal.

Not really a whine like a turbo, but more of a sound, like you said, grinding would be more like it, so if that is normal, I am good with that. Just reminds me of an old school power steering unit low on fluid.. Difference is, it only comes on as it spins up, where bad power steering unit growls when the wheel is turned...

Yea as Rock said, superchargers definitely whine as you go into boost, you can't mistake it, but you might also hear something like rocks in a tumbler or a slight carving sound as well, and thats the supercharger internals
