We discussing the 2015? I went to their website and it let me build an AC with the SR package and V6. Maybe 2016 changed the rules? Can't image why.

I'm now wondering what it would cost me to go with the SR5 Access Cab V6 without the appearance package, then change out the chrome rear bumper for a painted one, change out the front grill for the SR grill, and then add the black 16" alloys that are optional on the SR.

The price of the SR5 Access Cab V6 is only $1200 more than the price of the SR Double Cab V6, and when you add the wheels and convenience package to the SR, the price difference is only $300. So even if it costs $1500 to add/change that extra stuff, that may be worth it because then I also get some of the extra features the SR5 offers. Probably still would be around $3k less than the TRD models.

Are you talking 4wd or 2wd? I'm not sure that the black wheels are available on the SR5.

I think that you're having the same dilemma that I'm sure a lot of people are having.

The base model should be fine but i don't like this. I'll just get the SR5 then, but I don't like the chrome bumpers. Well the SR5 with the conv. package is basically the same price as the base TRD Offroad w/ manual tranny and comes with so much more stuff, so I should just get that. But that's got the chrome bumpers as well so I will need to get the tech package so that I can get the color matched bumpers. Well now the price went from 28k to 35k.

It's Toyota's "Value Pricing" and it works wonderfully to get you to spend 40k. Psychology is a powerful thing.

If you don't like the chrome bumpers, buy the Truck and replace the bumpers. Instead of buying the Tech package which sounds like you don't want to buy.

    Yes exactly!

I want an access cab with NO chrome. Only options for that are the base model with 4 cylinder (around $28k with the alloy wheels and convenience package), or the TRD off road with the tech package (around $35k). Any other way I do it would require replacing bumpers and/or grills.

4wd. And yes the black wheels are not available on the SR5, but I'm sure you can purchase them and add them, but the price will surely be higher than the $435 it costs to add them to the SR. I actually think those black wheels are the nicest looking wheels of any of the trim packages. I'm a big fan of black wheels.

I'm not sure if you have a preference to a M/T or A/T, but the TRD Sport 4x4 Access cab comes with the v6, colored keyed rear bumper. The M/T is: 7559 - TRD SPORT ACCESS CAB 4X4 V6 M/T - $ 31,320

I would never get that color, the wheels aren't my favorite but ok and the air dam needs removing, but otherwise i think it's a pretty good value. It's the cheapest trd you can get in 4wd.

I want an auto. And I agree, I'm not so crazy about the wheels on the TRD Sport (or on the SR5 either). I think after looking all the options over, the best and easiest thing for me to do may just be to get the double cab SR with the V6. I'm not totally against the idea of the double cab, it just seemed like a waste for me since I never have the need to put passengers in the back seat. So the back seat will be nothing other than storage, and it just seems like the access cab is no less useful for storage than the double cab, plus you get the long bed (and save about 175 lbs curb weight). But if I have to get the DCSB to get everything I want, then I suppose I would.

Function, utility and weight savings aside, I think the DC looks really good and I prefer it over the AC. I also think the SR is a really good value over the higher end models if you don't care about tech galore or flashy things like mirror turn signals or LED daytime running lights. I'm either getting the base TRD Off Road with manual, or the base SR DC with A/T. I have to see and hopefully drive both, but I can live with a very simplistic truck. It's got power windows and an ipod hookup, i don't really need anything else tech wise.

Please don't take this the wrong way. Do you really need a truck? Will you use the bed or just want a truck?

    Some things to think about.

If you looking for inside storage an suv has plenty of room with fold down seats.

The 4cyl gets the same mpg as six, but weak. I would have to think that driving sports cars in living in New Jersey where traffic can be bad and the need to merge often that the extra power would be welcomed.

I understand the money thing, but will you have buyers remorse.

Also no one knows for sure......but I have a feeling the 4 cyl may get improvements in the future. Toyota says no diesel, but they always let others test the water first. I do believe diesel or modified 4 may be the only way to achieve higher milage. Although it still has to push 4000 lbs.

To bad there is no regular cab with less weight. You could put on a tonneau cover for dry storage

I guess they figure the 4cyl is sufficient. At the same time I'm sure they'd prefer to sell you an SR5 AC V6 at a higher cost.

Feel the same way when looking at a 2015 and bought an access cab OR. If you get the DC, you get the shorter bed. Now for camping, that's important. In many respects, it's what you have for another car. We have a five passenger Venza that is very roooomy so DC is a duplication with out the room. The rear seat is not as roomy as a decent midsize SUV. Bedsides, in a pinch, you can put people you don't want to return in the back of the access cab...I really like the clam shell doors ! I put a color keyed Leer FG cap and it looks great. It is insulated, has lights inside and with the AC plug and window access through to the cab, it's great for pets, inanimate objects and camping. If you go with a DC long bed, you have 140 inche wheel base bus....you might as well get an f150. Even the access cab is 17 inches longer then a four runner !

Who would even consider the 4. A ton less hp and torque and worse MPGs. Not sure why Toyota even offers it.

I heard on an interview with a Toyota exec.
make the comment that the North East is a big buyer of the 4 cylinder. You do need a price point draw to get the people in. The earlier ones sold even with the dreadful 4 speed auto. The 0-60 for the four as stated earlier is 8.5 which means it's no slouch around town with the Six speed auto. Soooooo, if you don't use it like a truck and Carry light loads, commute and are a frugal sort...I can see it selling more then the previous four with the six speed auto helping lots.

I guess you read me correctly LOL.

I don't need a truck, but I want a truck. So yes, this is all about what I want, so I guess the difference between DC or AC is not a necessity but rather what I prefer. Since I rarely would have a need to put someone in the rear seat, it just seemed like the AC would be a better option. But if it comes down to getting the options I want, including the V6, then I suppose I would go with the DC.

As for the long bed vs. the short bed, I don't go camping, so I don't think that would make much of a difference. But I could see the occasion where the long bed would be more useful for carrying something long. I suppose I could always get a bed extender if that proves to be an issue.
