Throwing the towel in on my custom mount CB today. I had a failure of the antenna cable when my mount broke loose on me. Not even thinking, I snipped the cable about 1/4" to expose some new wire and then read that's a big no-no. Realistically, I never got more than 75% of the power for RF output. I think I'm going to purchase a Cobra WX 75, a new console, and a new NGP wire and and go that route. No extended wires, no custom anything, just radio and antenna. I like the custom face look but it just didn't perform well enough for me.

Ordered all the pieces and new radio. Mine did work, but I'm not 100% sure it was ideal. That'll be 20 hours of my life I won't be able to get back. (sigh) I'll probably through the whole assembly up for sale for someone who is braver than I to go through and maybe fix. If no one wants it or cares, I'll just pitch it.

Mike if you plan to do much trail riding you prob want to eliminate the kick stand switch all together. If the stand starts to bounce, it opens the switch, and the engine cuts out.

A new console, a Cobra 75 WX ST, new Firestik NGP coax and a SWR meter. One less thing in the truck to frustrate me.

Now if I could only figure out that front end grinding...grr.

I will keep the switches overridden, I was more referring to the shorty wiring method used to do the override. I want to strip it all back to factory wiring, redo the overrides I want to keep ans fix the rest so I have a reliable bike.

I removed the wires all the way to the white connector behind the headlight. Cut the wires a couple inches after the connector, soldered them together then reconnected the white connector. I can't even remember if I saved the switch.

Morning, Faces! I'm back from vacation and back at work (boo). Spent this past weekend up in the Downeast region. Spotting a New Hampsterite at the Bold Coast Park up in Cutler on Saturday...

Spent Saturday night camping on the beach in Lubec and watched the sunrise, then we took the bridge into Canadia and visited Campobello Island for most of the day on Sunday, stopped at Quoddy Head Lightm and came home Sunday night. Absolutely gorgeous weekend, and NO crowds. Perfect.

Glad you liked it! They probably were getting ready for the Barnstormer's Ball; they have a big auction every year, but it's not until the last weekend in October.
How far North along the coast did you get?
