You are thinking of the 2012 refresh. This has a new bed, new front end, new interior, new motor. Not all new but new enough to call it a gen 3. Super Duty has done the same thing sine 1998.

 

Lots of naive people who think a mid-size will inherently get better MPG and inherently be cheaper than a full size. Most people who get a brand new Tacoma already have deep pockets. They could have ponied up the cash for a comparably equipped full size for $4k more, but they get the mid size not because it is cheaper, but beause it is mid size.

They build tundras everyday for all that for 40000$. But the tundra is way to big I owed one in 2010 I liked except parking and 14 miles per gallon.

 

I have to agree somewhat. I have no real need for a full size. I came to Toyota because the gm trucks lack, or for me they do. I have always owned full sized gm trucks. I'm making the switch because I like what the tacoma offers. I like the tundra but it's too much for my wife to do [insert inappropriate Asian woman driver joke here], and I wanted to try out a new platform.

 

Why mid-sizers make more sense for me. I tow a 3500 lb travel trailer maybe 10 times a year. Tacoma should easily be able to handle that. I'd rather have a slower more efficient pickup when towing 10x a year than a huge behemoth as my daily driver.

 

Yes, we know how you feel already. What you don't seem to understand even though its been mentioned several times, many people don't want a full size. The Tundra could cost less than the Tacoma currently does and many of us would still choose the Tacoma for the advantages it has over the tundra. Its a better recreational vehicle.

Please, let it go already with your obsession about size somehow equaling value.

Why the face palm? It's a gen 3. It wasn't a clean sheet redesign. He said it was just a gen 2 with a new front end which we obviously know is not true. SMH

 

I guess the Tacoma is more for younger people I'm 41 but I like the new one and plan to get one but it probably will be my last. I just don't need all that tech stuff. That's what drives the prices up

 

And as TacoJonn has stated, those people are naive or maybe regretting that they have already tied up too much money in a late second gen and can't swing a third gen. They gotta talk themselves out of it by bashing the truck.

Besides, look at what a new nose did for Blake Lively. She's a brand new woman.

 

I agree. I am 32 but I am not too impressed with the tech package. At least for the price. I have an aftermarket GPS navigation I could plug in when I get lost and I have driven 16 years without blind spot monitoring. I would pony up for the tow package though. Good peace of mind to keep that transmission cool.

 

If you have a iPhone it connects gps to the truck it self.

 

I got one of those Garmins with the suction cups that stick to the windshield. Very intuitive system with clear graphics. I wouldn't even need my phone.

 

It is an odd sentiment. I currently drive a 2011 E90 M3 BMW. It's fully loaded and stickered right at $74,500. Yes, I could have purchased a new 7 series for just a few grand more. I didn't want a 7 series. I wanted an M3.

I'll end up getting a fully loaded limited Tacoma here in a few months. If I wanted a Tundra, I'd buy a Tundra. I don't want a Tundra. I want a Tacoma.

 

Exactly. Even if I wanted a Tundra, I would wait for the next redesign, which should be 2017 or so. It is too big, ugly and thirsty for my liking. I am hearing that 25 mpg is possible on the gen 3 if you drive conservatively (an I do). I can drive around in a Tacoma, have everything I need and not feel like I am driving a tank. Also, the current Tacomas are almost as big as the older full size trucks used to be.

 

Yes they are I own a 1997 T100 4x4 extended cab have 203 k miles on it but the frame is rusting bad. My 2014 Tacoma is my toy it has 3500 miles on it.

 

How does the size compare in the two? Interior size that is.
