King coil overs with a OME rear spring, installed and aligned is going to be $3800. That would be 3"in front and leveled in back with a light cap.

Toyotec for same thing is going to be $2800 installed.

Any reason to save the $1000? I'm looking for ride first, washboard second and to still be able to rarely tow another vehicle. Toyotec is popular, but is that because it's cheaper or is it really as good/better than king?

In no way is Toyotec better than King. Also, who is Tototech? :D

Care to explain? So they're both good? One is a good source of protein, the other vitamin C or what exactly?

So, assuming the king is a lot better on washboard, am I going to suffer pavement ride quality, or is the race quality going to be better all around?

Or are you saying I'll never notice unless I'm actually doing baja?

So much misinformation in this thread.

First off...which toytec? They have 3 different coilover options ranging from the Bilstein shock body, to the Boss, to the Boss 2.5 (which is really just a Sway-Away shock with the top cap rebranded to say BOSS). And no, all three are not created equally. For the sake of argument, I'm going to assume the middle tier one...the Boss

Kings are consumer rebuildable, re-valveable (tunable), and upgradeable. Toytec...is not.

Kings will allow you the option for a remote reservoir which allow for more oil (more oil means better cooling, better cooling means less chance of shock fade...especially important with washboard, and less frequent rebuilds). Toytec...does not.

Kings utilize a spherical bearing both on top and bottom of the coilover rather than shitty rubber or poly bushings. This allows for better misalignment characteristics during suspension cycling. Toytec...does not.

Kings have an option for "extended travel" which basically removes the shock shaft spacer allowing the shock shaft to extend farther. Pairing this with an aftermarket UCA such as TC, Burg, etc., will allow for extra droop travel. Toytec...does not.

"Ride" characteristics (regardless of environment such as wash, whoops, curbs, speedbumps, or priuses) are entirely an artifact of shock valving and weight of the truck. There's no argument that the King shock is going to ride softer or stiffer than Toytec...because you can valve it to do either. As I mentioned before, you can re-valve a King to suite your subjective preferences. Toytec...you guessed it...does not.

    Excellent info jberry,thanks.

Is this adjustable, like later can I do UCAs and remove the spacer after driving around with the spacer?

Also what's a normal lifetime for rebuild or replacement (moderate/normal use),are we talking every 2 years or every 10?

Yep. You can remove the spacer anytime you want later down the road.
There's no cookie cutter answer for rebuilds. It depends on how hard you work them and if you blow or tear a seal. I have to rebuild mine at least every 2 years...but I doubt you'll be working the shocks that hard. Most the rebuilds I've done for other people have been on the order of 4-5 years of usage.

More shit then I ever planned on doing
I just ordered the King setup and Icon UCA's for the front of my 2015 TRD OR to replace the crappy riding procomp kit I've got on it now. Been told it I should notice a significant difference.
    Fingers crossed!
