I personally went with the Limited because it had all the features that I wanted built in, standard (including leather) because I plan on keeping this thing for 15-20 years also as my daily driving vehicle. Comfort was of the utmost importance for me because it's not like it's a "work truck", or something that will be driven occasionally to haul stuff.

Confirming you mean the '16 Limited? May I ask what the final tally was?

I was trying to decide in the same situation you are thinking about.
I read reviews on the OR and what made me decide on the limited was
ride quality vs the ruff riding OR on the highway.

I have never owned an OR so going with reviews. Maybe some folks
with the OR package can weigh in on comparisons.

Unless you are using the OR a lot for what it was designed, I would go with the
Limited or Sport. The Limited with cost quite a bit more.

My 2013 Limited Pre Runner rides pretty nice.

I wish there was a Limited with locking diff control. But ride quality is definitely a factor in my case. I'll be driving on the highway more than off-road. Now I'm thinking as long as I've got a 4x4 Limited, I should be able to traverse the majority of OR trails around these parts.

One weird quirk I noticed is no Homelink in the TRD OR. While I don't park in my garage, I do enter through it - as most folks do I imagine.

And lastly, only one color choice for the interior: hickory. I'd like a grey interior.

The TRD off road package is a nice package that gives you off road aids that help a lot. If you are worried about ride quality then the limited might ride better. You really need to test drive the different models.

Yes, 2016 Limited. I ordered it three days ago. The dealerships near me are pretty unwavering (a higher population area). The MSRP was about $40,353, and I got them to $39, 482. That included the V6 tow package, all weather floor mats, bed step, and then mud guards thrown in for free.

Same here, I wish there were more choices on interior colors.
Interior color on the Limited is LA42 Bisque and the only one available.

You should test drive them. The off road has soft suspension, not hard. For more flex...

Probably not as sporty, but as far as ride quality...

I have a Tacoma TRD fully loaded and I do about the same amount of driving you do and let me tell you that the few times I had to use one of the options that you don't often use I was very glad to have it. If you don't get the off road package and you are with your friends and you get stuck because you didn't have one of those options you will be kicking yourself and your friends will be giving you a hard time about getting your new Tacoma stuck!

The cost difference between an OR Loaded and a LTD is very little. I ordered my TRDOR w/TECH and MSRP was 39,5K I'm getting it for 37.9K. I don't think you could go wrong either way. I've have never used my locking diff on my 2014, but you'll notice you always get it back on resale. Same could be said for limited.

After taking in everyone's input - thank you all very much - I placed my order today and set down $500 for a 2016 TRD OR DC with tech pckg (JBL), quicksand exterior, graphite w/gun metal interior.

I had to custom order it. They estimate 4-8 weeks delivery. They found a similarly spec'd one on their delivery list but without the JBL package. But they estimated that delivery for November! So I just custom ordered my very own since the lead time is the same.

I'm very stoked. I've never custom ordered a vehicle. And got one fully loaded. The wait is going to be hell.

This is quite true. Their options are ordered in such a manner that eventually they will build my preference. It may be more accurate to say this is the first time I'm waiting for the exact version I want.

This is the same that happened to me. They are simply ordering what I want as part of their allocation for October delivery.

This one is w/o JBL...the one with JBL is everything listed PLUS JBL (HH) code I believe.

I'm in the same boat right now but for a different reason. I want a Limited but with a manual transmission.

For me the TRD OR is kind of pointless because the suspension will be replaced and crawl control/terrain select is lame/no fun (EDIT: turns out these only come with the AT model so they're irrelevant for me. The manual TRD OR comes with A-TRAC). The only thing worthwhile in the TRD OR package for me is the rear diff but can just buy a better one aftermarket. However, there is an optional manual transmission...

The Limited options are far more useable for me and things I'd rather get from Toyota as opposed to aftermarket (leather and tech). However, no manual transmission option :(

    What to do

EDIT: I didn't realize when I originally posted this but I believe the Limited will have everything the TRDOR has plus more so that includes crawl control/multi-terrain select and the locking rear diff. This is merely speculation based on what they have done with Limited models on the Tundra and 4runner. Confirmation would be nice.

This was the same issue with me: I wanted a manual Limited. But, I figured my pleasure car is manual, so this will be the auto for work.
