And for some reason they decided to keep the sides of the bumper and the fog light bezels from the '12-'15 on them (at least a striking resemblance). Not sure that fits the updated look.

I think it will look good built, but stock... that grill would look better as a trapezoid like the '12-'15 models and it looks like a cheese grater. Nothing like shredding some cheese for your taco with your Taco!

I think once they get some aftermarket parts on them they will look pretty impressive. Definitely more like the newer Tundras where you'll look like a baller driving one that's built rather than an off-roader at least in the beginning. Maybe people felt the same way about the 2005 too? I was driving an '81 at the time, so I can't really say I was up on things back then. The long nose seems to be excessively large. I wonder if it was for safety, aesthetic, or functional reasons that they made it that way.

I think it looks good too! It looks a little strange not coming stock with mud flaps though. I do like that the optional ones are sized down quite a bit from the previous models. The dealer should be shot for screwing on that awful license plate frame to the front, that is of course unless SD requires one on the front. Makes the nose stick out EVEN more.

You think the wheels are buried into the body of the new Tacoma? Check out the freakin' Tundras!!! There's not a single stock Tundra that doesn't look like it's sitting on a set of training wheels. Love the new look, can't wait to get mine!

So in California you can walk in and buy a truck and I haven't even got a build date yet. I agree with evert hinges the op said except the opposite. Love the new redesign. Mid model? Not sure a mid model gets a new engine and complete new interior. However I personally think they just improved the exterior looks. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Thanks for the pics.

True dat. First thing I do after stopping to get tires will be debadge. Can't stand a 15 dollar sticker on my paint job. Emblems will come off too. Only thing I haven't debadged is my harley. All metal emblem with inlaid stone. Now that is an emblem.

Wow. This thing must have just hit that dealership, I was there early yesterday and it wasn't there. I wonder how many test drives it will go on.

Called to make sure it was there, went to buy, puked a little at the looks and walked away.
They've done a lot with it since 2015. The aesthetic is worse in person than I had anticipated.
Maybe everyone is on this big grille bandwagon for a reason but I think it looks awful. But mostly I was unimpressed overall, particularly by a power plant that didn't even improve fuel economy.
I just don't get how these days they expect to be competitive when the other manufacturers are addressing real-time issues and concerns. You can't build a truck these days that pulls 17mpg as a NEW truck in 2016.
It has me looking elsewhere and gives me no incentive to buy a 2016.
    Bummer.

Its proportions that are screwed up on new truck. When you standing next to truck it looks like cheap afterthought.
It looks like Chinese made a ripoff copy of Tacoma. The way you recognize cheap Chinese car ripoffs is by spotting what has a shape of previous vehicle with odd crap attached to it.
When you design whole truck grill and the rest of the truck makes sense (look at Sierra and F150) In 2016 Tacoma looks like Leepu and Pitbull got 2015 Tacoma and Leepu went and said lets make a prawl front so he replaced grill with Ford Taurus grill and pound the crap out of hood to make center rise.
Than got some Sienna headlights and called a day.

    Leepu & Pitbull show"

Something similar Leepu did to this car except his creations look better than what Toyota did.

Yeah, good lord. I love my 2010 even more now. Imagine getting hit by that grill? It would be like getting hit by a freightliner.

Everything is going to start looking like that. Within the next few years vehicles have to have pedestrian impact zones on the front. Instead of paying attention to driving we have to design cars to do that for us.
