Warming Up Your Vehicle

How important do you guys consider it? Do you do it? And how much do you let it warm up (normal operating tempurature, halfway there, etc.)?

 

I just let my truck warm up for about a minute. but when winter hits i normally let it worm up tell i see the temp gauge move up a little.

 

Oil light? are you talking about the one that turns on immediately after you startup and stays on for a few seconds, then turns off?

 

As a avid track-nut - on cold mornings and cold start-ups... we start the car and drive immediately. We'll take several laps or runs without running bringing the revolutions up too high.

Example. I drive my tacoma the same way I trackday or daily-drive my BMW M3. Start the car, drive away, let engine warm up to at least 120 degrees before exceeding 3500-4000 RPMs.

Makes total sense and makes reiterates the fact that Im a dumbass when it comes to vehicles. I wanted to get remote start so I can let my truck warmup while I wait inside for it to warmup but seems like this is the wrong idea. Thanks!

 

I start my truck and drive away but i dont drive it hard.

 

I've owned alot of vehicles and never buy if the owner has a command start, they idle way to long, I start mine give it 30 seconds (summer) and 1 minute or so in the winter but I don't drive it hard until gauge is at normal operating temp.

 

I start the truck put on my seatbelt, adjust the radio and heater controls by this time the RPM's have dropped and it is time to drive away. I just wait to really get on it for a couple of minutes

 

I start mine, let the idle drop from high idle, about 1500 rpm to about 1150 or so (about 30 to 45 seconds) and then take off.

I turn her on and turn the defrost on high to help clear the windows. By the time I'm done either scraping the ice or wiping the water off, it's time to go. So, I guess, I do warm mine up - mainly only to help make the windows easier to clean and keep clear.

That said, I still give her a few minutes of easy driving to let her warm up, if she's not by the time the windows are clear.

 

However long it takes my mp3 player to load up the first song.

If the battery for it is dead, then I just take off after turning the truck on.

 

ill usually let my truck warm up for a minute or so in the summer..in the winter, ill let it warm up for about 5-10 mins to let it get warm inside or melt the snow

 

I always warm my truck up for about 5 minutes before I go somewhere. Only reason is because I live by the highway and it isnt smart to enter a highway driving like a grandma imo.

 

most people do this if they live somewhere really cold, not so much to warm the engine up but the cabin inside

 

I start it and idle for about 30-60 seconds and drive easy till it gets over 160. Scan gauge, also if you have an auto you cant get into OD till 130 so you have to go easy.

 

If it is cold, and up here it tends to get that way and stay that way for a while, I will let it warm up to the point that the truck is blowing warm air. So just until the temp. needle moves a bit. Otherwise i start it and go.

 

Start it up, turn on the AC, fix radio and drive. So I wait all of 10 seconds. Normally about 2 miles down the road it is close to operating temp.

 

man, I let it run for like 10 to 15 mins, I dont care, I like my inside nice and warm and my oil heat up really good!
