I have a 2012 2wd v6 TRD Offroad taco, and am getting the Bilstein 5100 kit to level it out. I am putting the shocks in the rear and the struts up front. Is there anything else I would need to make sure of for this build?
With this kit, I plan on putting them to 2.5" on the front, what size tires and wheels would still fit without any further modifications? right now I am running 255/75/r16, but am in the market for new tires, probably the Cooper AT3's.
Anything about this would help very much.

    Thanks

You would need an AAL for the rear, biggest size you can run tire wise without cutting some plastic and adding spacers is 265/75/r16. If your willing to do a bit of trimming, you can do 285/75/r16 with 1.25in spacers here is a picture of mine. I'm running 3in 5100s lift with 265/75/r16 and 1.5in spacers(wanted a little poke lol) heres my truck for reference if it helps. Also some say you need new upper control arms, for a perfect alignment if you do 3in or more but i haven't had a problem.

This is incredibly helpful! Thank you.
Can I get away without adding the spacers and still running the 265/75/r16??
Did you have to do anything else regarding the bilsteins? Or did you just install the rear shocks, and front struts and call it a day? Will do the suspension, and shortly after adding tires. dont know if I will need to change rims? Offset? 16X8 rim 6 on 5.5 pattern? It looks like you just kept the stock rim and its working just fine?
Did you plastidip your rims? or rim paint?
Sorry for so many questions, with a steady income comes a steady diet of MODS!

I used wheel paint on my stock rims to make them black. Looks just as good as the plastidip would have except I didn't have to remove overspray off the tires so IMO paint worked out better than dip

But instead of going with spacers if I just upgraded the wheel to 16X8... is that wiser?

I have that size tire right now with no lift. They fit with no issues whatsoever. Still have the mud flaps on. I think with a 2-3" lift you can go up to a 255/85/16 (33"), without spacers. Someone that's running that size would know better, but that's my understanding.

You run a wheel spacer to clear the tire (285's) with the upper control or you like the look. Or both!

If you are just leveling and not adding a lift of some sort (spring pack or AAL) in the rear I'd only go 2" up front. Higher and you may end up nose high. If you want to go higher add a rear lift as well. As others mentioned 265/75R16 will fit without rubbing even at stock height (no spacers needed). Larger and you will need to do some trimming.

Can you post an alignment sheet showing you are within spec using stock UCAs at 3"? I doubt it. While you may not recognize the problem you are going to have accelerated uneven tire wear and poor highway handling characteristics.

You can use your stock wheel, which is 16x7 with offset of 30 (I believe). I'm running 17x7.5 with offset 6, to push the wheels out to the edge of the flare for a more aggressive look and slightly more stability of a wider stance. I'd rather not blast the side of my truck with rocks, so I don't want my wheels past my flares. If you wanted similar placement on a 16x8" wheel look for an offset near +12. The TRD beadlock style 16x7" wheels run an offset of 4 to get the same look.

From what I've gathered for best ride with the Billies keep the setting at 1.75 or go with an aftermarket spring. Either way being a 2012 you should(but verify) have the 4 leaf pack in the rear and shouldn't need to do an AAL unless you carry a load.

Speaking for myself, I'm still on the fence on going with 5100's at 1.75 or buying 6112's and set them at around 2". I need just a bit more clearance in the front. The other factor for me is I'm going to be ordering an aluminum bumper from CBI so that may change lift height. I'm not doing an AAL in my truck as I have the 4 leaf pack. Even with the canopy and the bed loaded with camping gear the rear doesn't sag much and the front is still way lower. Whenever I do finally get a camper trailer I will put air bags in the rear.

Anyone know anything further on this? I am looking to stay within reason on a budget and not have to buy a bunch of other parts, so far I am getting the 2 5100 shocks for the rear, the 2 5100 struts for the front, with install for about $590 (dont have the time to install myself)
Then I am in need of getting new tires as is, and prior to the billies decision was going to get 265/75/r16 Cooper At3's for $600.
If I just stick with both of these am I doing alright? or Do i need to up the tire and/or wheels???
    Anyone with pictures would help....

265/75/r16 is stock size for the TRD Offroad so you don't need to anything to put those on. I'm getting a 3" OME lift (but with BOSS shocks in the rear) installed next week and I'll be running stock rims/tires. I can post a picture when it's done if you'd like. But soon I'm going to switch my tires out with either Wrangler M/Ts or BFG A/Ts at a 285/75/16 size for 33" and eventually get different rims.

You will be fine with those parts and tires. However, as others have said, I would recommend using the 1.75" setting on the struts. At 2.5" you'll have a harder time getting a proper alignment and your nose will probably be a bit higher than the rear, especially since you've got a 2x4.

265/70R16 is stock on TRD off-road. You can fit 265/75R16 without an issue on a non-lifted truck.

I had slight issues with 265/75/16 BGG KO2 with rubbing. Even after removing the mud flaps. Tossed 5100's in and leveled it to get rid of that. Depends on the tire I suppose for some.

For my setup i did shocks and added a 2in AAL in the rear. You dont have to run spacers for 265/75/r16 they will still fit i just did it because. I plasti dipped my wheels held up for 3 years so far.

This has been very helpful, I cant thank you all enough. SO I am pretty set on doing the 5100 strut up front and shocks in the rear, and not putting a block or touching it otherwise, now the whole tire thing is becoming the next fun part... :annoyed:

Hey, I just installed the 5100's front and back with BFG KO2's 265-70-17 on my 09' TRD DC, Everything fits great so far. One mistake tho was I didn't order the replacement Front bushing package. When it came to install I ended up messing my bushings up while taking them out. Do yourself a favor and order that set , IMO, also , I didn't see any bushings below the "collar" but the package comes with more than just the washer and bushing I need on top . Any advice? - Did I miss a step and forget these and they need to be installed or am I ok... ? rides smooth although no 4x4 until I receive the parts i'm waiting on.
    Thanks

dont forget the 3 degree shims to keep the drivetrain in line so it reduces the chance of you getting vibrations.
