I sold a steel one. This one is aluminum. I wouldn't have bought this one, but I'm already driving up there this weekend to buy his Super Topper.

I forgot how cheep the tailgate feels without the plate. I always regretted not getting the aluminum version.

    If you must know... :D

Thanks! The steel is much heavier, especially when you accidentally drop the tailgate. Aluminum is much better.

    Congrats on the upgrade!

Wow... this is a blast from the past lol. At the time, I liked the aluminum better because it was lighter.

Now, my truck is 6300 lbs all loaded up to wheel. I wouldn’t care either way.

Have you now owned/used both versions? I am curious about how much more of a pain in the arse the steel will be vs. aluminum. We are installing a Go Fast Camper soon and want the best tailgate $ can get us as we will be using it much more frequently than when we slept in tents. I have always hated how cheap the OEM tailgate feels. I would prefer to go steel for strength, but if it's unbearable, maybe aluminum is the answer...

Side note: We will be pulling this bad boy closed from inside as that's how you seal up the camper. So I wonder if the weight savings is worth the difference in strength? Thanks for your help!

    BTW, Sick rig!

    Thank you.

I have used both. The aluminum is plenty strong. If pulling it closed from the inside, I personally would go with the aluminum one.

I have the aluminum one. One of the best purchases for my truck to date. I have beat the hell out of it, and have been very pleasantly surprised at how well it has held up. Would highly recommend it to anyone on the fence...
