    Tow ratings are akin to politics. Toyota has always been quite conservative. But, even towing 5000 lb with a narrow Taco in a cross wind is a death wish. Anything over 5 to 6 k farther then across the street is best handled by full size trucks. Tow ratings for these between a few hundred pounds mean little but bragging rights

    The way tow ratings are calculated changed, it's not really a right or wrong. The 2GR can tow more than the 1GR if you compare the same calculation methods. If they had a 2GR back in 2007 to test, it would have been rated higher than the 1GR.

    When discussing tow ratings, you can never be sure that is the maximum towable rate for your particular vehicle.
    http://bamarv.blogspot.com/2011/04/how-to-calculate-your-real-towing.html

    To be safe, I always knock off 20 % to 25% at least when making a general suggestion to others. Generally speaking, whether it's 6400 or 6800....and mine is 6500, 5000 is my limit when I tow trailers. My tractor is 4200 lbs and the trailer is a one ton flat bed. I am not towing it with a truck rated 6500 lbs and itself weighs much less then the towed weight......but I have borrowed one of my neighbors full size trucks. Even the Fast Lane Truck guys when doing their gauntlet run go no where near maximum tow ratings. To me, that's all they are...a rating and not a true safe weight.

    I just (re)stumbled upon a 'product info' sheet I previously downloaded that had COD numbers:
    4x2AC = 0.388
    4x2DC = 0.385
    4x4AC = 0.389
    4x4DC = 0.386
    (It doesn't say anything about TRD or LB/SB.)

    Also they don't state tonneau cover (or not) or front air dam (or not for both). Wish they did :/

    There you have it, so all the gains in MPG on the highway are due to aerodymaics improvement. Which means 2gen folks can install air dam plus tonneu plus tailgate with lip. and have the same MPG's as new truck.
    So new engine didn't do squat to improve highway MPG's

    Yeah but that's your opinion, and there are no facts to support that 2GR-FKS could tow more, in fact there is plenty to contrary.
    1. Tow rating of 4wd 2007 DCLB truck which has similar weight to 2016 is higher.
    2. Payload of 4wd 2007 DCLB truck is higher than 2016 truck
    3. Above numbers are despite 2007 truck using 3.73 and 2016 using 3.91
    4. Above numbers are higher despite 2007 truck using 5 speed and 2016 using 6 speed with all gears but #6 being higher
    5. 1GR has more torque than 2GR which is what Tows your trailer and not a HP. its a difference of 1 lb-ft but still more and I bet you the torque curve is better too.

    There are 5 Facts against 2GR, 0 for it being better towing engine. Not surprising, Seatbelt bracket Mike said himself that Toyota was not makign new truck as capable for towing since he thinks majority of owners do not tow.
