Dumb question but what exactly is a cash sale like you mentioned? Does that mean you show up with a suit case full of money, drop it front of a salesman and point at the truck you want?

I paid cash for my truck but that was in the form of a cashiers cheque a couple of days after the price was negotiated and I was able to get the bank to print the cheque.

A few months ago I wanted an over-the-range model of a Panasonic microwave with inverter technology. I looked all over the web and could not find a US vendor who stocked it (I'm in the US). There were Canadian vendors who had them, but none of them would sell to a US address. I finally spent $20 to rent a Canadian address, had it shipped there from a Canadian vendor, and then had it forwarded from there to the US. Of course, what worked for a small appliance might not work for something like a truck, but if you are paying cash, I can't think off hand of a reason why not. I know that a lot of people in Europe who want to buy things available in the US but not in their countries do the same thing.

 

How do you rent an address ???

 

Just Google "US address" and you will see many listings for renting US addresses. You pay a fee, usually not much, and they will send you a non-PO box US address. Anything sent there in your name will be forwarded to your real address (for an additional fee). Again, I don't know whether this would work for your purposes or not, but it might be worth looking into.

 

I suppose when buying the truck, they will want to see your driver's license, so just having a US address would not change your license address. Another way might be to form a US corporation, which might cost a few hundred dollars using legalzoom, and then have the corporation buy the truck.

 

We do the reverse a lot up here in Northwestern Ontario (the part north of Minnesota). There's a couple gas bar/store setups on the other side of the border that offer parcel pick-up service for a fee. You put your name and their street address with no store name. Deliveries from UPS, Fedex, USPS, etc. Used a lot for Canadians around here shopping U.S. websites, although the exchange rate is kind of hurting that lately. Used to be a great, cheaper way to get parts rather than paying ridiculous prices up here.

God, what a rigmarole. There must be an easier way.

 

What does the TRD OR have that's worth going through all of this? The suspension will be almost identical to all other Tacoma's... you could get the Bilstein shocks aftermarket if you really wanted them but why not just replace the whole thing with King, Icon, Fox coilovers.. for what you'll spend getting a US truck to Canada you could get a better suspension than any of the stock Tacomas I'd bet.

 

Locker , ATRAC , MTS , Crawl Control etc

 

Can get better (air) lockers aftermarket and electronic assists are so lame. Ruins the fun offroading and on a track with a sports car. That's just my opinion though, to each their own.

 

Better buy a 2008 if you want no electronic nannies

 

Just move to the States

 

Can ATRAC be turned off? MT doesn't have crawl/mts so don't have to worry about that.

And while I'm asking can the auto LSD traction control be turned off?
