With that being said...working a deal right now on a Ruger Gunsite Scout with Vortex scope, bipod, sling and Lantec break...looking like I might walk away around $700 out the door

Sound like a solid option. Good luck! We need pics if it happens!

If you don't draw blood, you're doing it wrong!
Aaah, I saw that you spent time with your buddy's Patrol, but didn't see/read the part about it not being a good option for you. The stock is not for everyone, and the action is not as solid as higher-end choices, but it has served me well so far (esp. for the price point).

I am still considering a limbsaver for it, after 30+ rds. of 180gr, it feels like I'm holding a 2x4 against my shoulder.

Another option that has piqued my interest lately, the Ruger Precision...should be around $1000 Out the Door (once the initial fervor has died down).

Sweet deal! I imagine you will be very pleased with that rifle, and decent glass already included!!!

The expensive mags were the only negative to keep me from getting one. :headbang:

    Dat Ruger....... *drools*

I have a Rem. 700 SPS 26" Bull Barrel .308 with factory stock and Vortex Mil-Dot glass, and bipod. I need a longer range scope, but longest shot so far is 578yards at a 5in diameter(est) clay.
EDIT: This was up at my shooting spot in Flagstaff, so around 6800Ft Altitude.

I love my rifle. It loves to shoot the 168grain Match Point Holos. Super straight. Tight groups (1/4" 3-shot grouping at 200yrds).

Tried to jettison my 700VS .308 from the safe for years (half assedly..) Leupy 4.5-14x40 VX3 I think it wears. Didn't know how to price it either.

My least favorite and least fired gun. Accurate but no fun in CA on my short local ranges.

The one thing I don't like about the scout is that it's.....a scout rifle, meaning you need a long eye relief scope which limits options tremendously...unless they changed where the rail is on it

I love the GSR. I would trade my VS for one in a heartbeat.

That was another selling point of the MVP Scout - it has a full length rail, but the GSR also includes ring adapters to mount a scope above the receiver rather than in front of it.
