So what is up with those shitty cubbies in the bed of my new Tacoma. Why wouldn't they make them like their functional counterparts. I want to make plates that close them up like the others. Does ayone have an idea. I have searched the web and cant find anybody who has modified them except one of your members who put lights in them...which was cool, but I want to use them as storage. Maybe Black Anodized Alluminum hatches with simple locks... I hope someone has had a similar thought. Pictures are coming soon. Peace.

Those are nice but the OP is talking about the ones over the wheel wells that are just open & useless.....except for bed lights or other customization.

They are there do you can put a second deck back there. Kinda make like a 2 level bed. But i have seen like 1 person on here actually do it. I just threw lights in there and it helps a lot.

Im sure you could easily cut some sheet metal and use a piano hing and lock to make a cover. Just experiment a little.

Would you not have purchased the truck if you had noticed the bungee cord storage (cubbies)?

They are not shitty, to me. It's a hell of a lot better than toyota just not having them at all. I mean, the alternative is that the plastic bedliner could have been molded over it. Then you would have NO options at all. If you want any considerable storage you should just buy a tool box???

Like others have mentioned you oughta make your own lids. That is one of the cool things about a Tacoma is they are easy to do stuff like that to. I have a tonneau on mine so I use them for quick access to stuff like bug spray and sunscreen and oil rags. I am glad they are there.

I have been working on a plexiglas cover with lights behind mine. Not quite finished.

I used that open cubby hole on the drivers side to mount the rear differential breather...stays dry under the Snug Top canopy.

I like the cubbys, but stuff falls out of em if you drive 'spirited' on the road and off like I do. Ive actually had the drivers side cubby completely fall out. lol. I think eventually i'll try and make some sheet metal boxes that fit there like the locking one posted earlier.
