Deleted and reposted here because too many people are hung up on the more superficial outside looks.

Any vehicle made the same for 10 years with the same safe design in combination with people generally not liking change and having spent a small fortune on their Gen 2s equals a few people finding the 16 less than a stellar design.....No redesign will satisfy everyone. Same happened in the Miata Forums with the new ND.:sadviolin:

I am not buying the body design of the 16 Tacoma. I could not care less how it looks from the outside. I am not "showing" it. I will be driving it from the inside out and enjoying the improvements in driving a more powerful truck , the redesigned interior, as well as all the tech goodies I seriously doubt I will be disappointed. Maybe it won't be that turn back and take a "second glance" vehicle when parking it, Or turning on the light in the garage and taking a peek before going to bed for that day's end glance of approval :yay:

F%^%K Who cares about the outside? It's not a woman and won't affect sane people sexually . (Well I have heard some people strangely call vehicles "sexy") Not something I would say. :humble:

People need to live their lives more from the inside out rather than the outside in and they won't worry so much about how things look to total strangers or in a mirror. Just don't dare glance at the reflection of the truck in store windows as you drive by! :crapstorm:

After ten years , this is a phenomenal refresh IMO with far more to enjoy than not....and I am notveven buying a 4WD mode. It will be a functional ("car like" I hope ) street vehicle that can handle home gardening and Costco pick up loads. I chose the middle suspension between the soft Limited and harder OR :lalala:

Not sure why I'm gonna do this but here's my 2 cents

I like the 3rd gen. As far as exterior goes, I think the fenders and rear end have been significantly improved over the 2nd gen. I had no issue with the front end when I first saw the truck but after reading everyone's gripes and taking a second look I get what they're saying. The bulge for pedestrian protection might not look the best but it doesn't matter in the least to me because the grill and bumper are going to be replaced regardless. Would do the same with a 2nd gen.

As for interior, it appears to be way nicer but it could be totally different in person for better or worse.

As for powertrain, the new motor sounds fine to me on paper but some of the "reviews" I've read on here didn't turn out as I was expecting. I don't put much weight in those however. Just gonna have to drive one myself to see if I like it.

My biggest complaints are no Limited manual option and why tf did they put chrome all over the nicest model? That's so backwards to me.

Prices seem reasonable to me.. it's not like they were gonna go down and they haven't gone up too much. I feel like the TRD models will be leaving lots for mid 30's in a year or so and that's about right IMO. It's the same you would pay for a similarly optioned Jeep JK and a solid $10k less than you'd pay for a similarly optioned full size truck.

There is a distinction between design and style. Design is about functionality. Style is about looks. The design of the 2nd gen and 3rd gen are basically identical. I'm not sure there's anything a 2nd gen can do that a 3rd gen can't, or the other way around.

Here is a way to test styling. When you're at a traffic light at a big intersection, look at the first row of cars of the oncoming traffic. If any of them catch your attention, that's effective styling. Usually the point of styling is to be interesting, not boring. Interesting doesn't have to be the same as beautiful.

The styling of the new Tacoma is what seems to be polarizing. Some people love it, some people hate it, and most people are more concerned about design than style. It is good that the styling evokes a reaction in people. It seems that having a reaction is what is bothersome. The thing that gets all the attention, the grille, is what most people think needs to be changed. If it wasn't for the grille there would be nothing to look at or talk about, and that's the definition of boring style.

I admit I was also in the camp that thought the grille was too much when I first saw it. It is a big departure from the 2nd gen styling. It was bold and in your face and forced you to look at it. Now that's exactly why I like it. That isn't for everyone but I can't wait to get one.

Here's a great video about style vs design.
