The 2nd gen was a major difference because the 1st gen was absurdly outdated by the time it came to an end and there were massive style changes in the industry by then. That isn't the case now coming from a second gen that was just refreshed a few years ago. Also, I don't know how closely you follow the auto industry, but evolutions are the new norm when models get a new gen. Major style changes typically are not unless a vehicle didn't sell well.

In all honesty I was let down by the new Tacoma. Especially now that real people are driving them and noting that the new engine feel like a buzzy Honda Civic motor. I am gonna wait for the new Frontier to be released and other new mid-sizers before I pull the trigger on anything.

Too poor to list anything interesting.
    I won't be buying a 3rd gen because I bought a 2014 not even 2 years ago.

I'm not blown away by the 2016. Missing some things I'd like and that will probably by on the 2017's. But I desperately need a new truck before winter here so I can't wait another year. I'm coming from a 2001 4 cyl so it should be a pretty big upgrade for me. I looked at the 2015's and I just couldn't bring myself to get one.

That being said I do really like the 2016 so far. Once I have a test drive I'll determine if it's for me. Just not blown away like I could potentially have been.

If you can do fine with the 2001 4 banger , the new V6 will be more than enough for you.

OP, I enjoyed reading your post. I also have an '09, and starting considering the 2016, but after talking to the dealer and reading a lot of info on here, now I am also considering a leftover 15. It's about a $5-6k difference between the identical 2015 vs. 2016. (I know it's not "identical", but same truck: TRD Sport DCSB 4x4 Auto, Magnetic Gray)
The 2015 truck that the dealer has left on the lot, has offered it to me for $31k, with no negotiating. They say the 2016 of the same truck will be about $36k.
So it just got me thinking.
And I appreciate hearing other peoples thoughts on a similar transaction.

All the threads in this 3rd gen section have been a circle jerk, but I sympathize, though I don't have any current or future plans as of yet to buy a 3rd gen Tacoma. If I had my way I'd be driving around a 3rd gen 4Runner.

I don't agree with people "pissing on the early adopters". I'm very appreciative that they are buying the truck and then posting on Tacoma world for others to see.

I also think it's perfectly fine for people to post why they are disappointed in the 3rd gen. I don't think these threads have to be some lame assed high five, back slapping exhibition. Who knows maybe someone at Tacoma reads this stuff and make improvements to the truck.

At least they say they do......

If all you people posting nobody cares stuff or bashing him for a simple thought thread>>> Why are you posting? Your not adding anything, except being a pecker and showing you ironically care enough to post nobody cares..Aaand that's about it.

You're not crazy OP. It sounds like what you were looking for was a truck with much better mpg and better offroad capability. The 2016 does not offer those things.

What it does offer at the end of the day is better cab comfort in a truck that can be modified easily to run with your current rig. Whether or not that's worth it to someone is all in how badly they want the updated cab. For me, I'll wait for the Ranger you mentioned. All my F150's have been well ahead of the competition in terms of power, fuel economy, and reliability. I can't wait to see what they off me in the Ranger, even if it just comes with Fords new 3.7 L engine.

Yeah, agreed 100%. The F150 seems to be the leader BY FAR and I'm hoping that translates into whatever they decide to bring state-side with the ranger. Though, by that logic, the Tacoma should be crap considering what the Tundra is...

But again, aside from whether the 3rd gen meets your needs or not, I'd still say it's a foolish time to buy anything in the midsize market. I understand some of you NEED to buy something very soon for personal reasons, but for anyone looking who's NOT in dire need of a new truck I'm thinking it's smarter to wait. In addition to the ones listed before, I think VW is seriously considering a midsize truck in North America and I even saw a concept from Hyundai. The market is going to get absurdly competitive and customers are going to reap the benefits in a big big way. Should the Chicken Tax get repealed, it's going to be open season on the midsize truck market and EVERY manufacturer is going to want a piece of the pie. :headbang:

Only problem with this is the Tacoma owners flock to newer models regardless of changes. "Sooooo what you're telling me is, this 2011 model is one year newer than my 2010 model? Please take my money."

Side note: One of your points is the suspension. There's a high probability of swapping your current lift over to a '16. Shall I return your stock suspension now or nah?

Why is this Thread necessary? Is the OP an "expert?" LOL This is thread belongs in the 2nd Gen Section. WHO CARES WHY SOMEONE DOeS NOT WANT .........?

I think most people are capable of making up their own minds AFTER at LEAST Seeing and test driving one. OP has done neither. On paper he doesn't like it....How informative!!!! On paper I ordered it and sold the same 2015.. I like the interior, 40 more HP, Stout Tail Gate, the Tech. Tad better MPG, I am spending $6000 more than my 2015 sold for. I can see where the money is.

Thousands of buyers are not buying the Gen 3 this year and thousands are....Most don't go offroad. Most don't need to wait for the "competition" No one will have the QDR the Tacoma has. I had experience with both Chevy and Ford and the service does not compare with Toyota. One phrase I have never heard fro my Toyota Service advisor or tech is "They all do that"

The F150 is nice $45K truck discounted $9000... I looked at them and drove one (did not make it out of the lot) it's waaaay to big for me. I don't need the payload or towing, But if I did, the F150 would be on my short list, No GMs ever....

I don't expect many who spent a small fortune on their trucks to want a 3rd Gen

Without reading any of the original post I can say, "well fuck I'll make a thread titled why I won't be upgrading to a 2nd gen"

Seriously people make threads on just about anything. Just stop. Ok we get it don't buy one.
