Help Deciding what to do for more bass

Ok so i have been posting alot of threads lately on fixing issues i have been running into. if u have read those you know what i mean. but as of now this is whats going here is what i have.

Sony Xplod(cheap shit, but doing its job for the most part)
JL13tw5
JBL speakers
Audiofonics amp(wired to all speakers and tweeters)
Pioneer amp(powering the JL)

before i just had the sub and pioneer amp. the OLD jbl amp had to be connected to have volume control so i left that in and the sub was bumping pretty hard but the sound was muddying up with the other speakers. so i went out and got a new headunit and wired all the speakers to that head unit. the people i bought this shit from didnt care about customers just wanted money. it was cheap really cheap but once they installed it the speakers sounded ghetto. so i bought the other amp powering the speakers and the volume was back. but they wired something wrong and all the hi's were going to the rear speakers (i went back today and its fixed) i dont feel like im getting the best out of my sub..... its sad because marv built a perfect enclosure and i want to have full potential.

now what i want to accomplish is to keep all my speakers and amps, but get more bass. i know the head unit isnt allowing me to bring up the base without turning up all the gain and controls on the head unit. so what do u guys think.

upgrade to more expensive head unit if so what do you guys suggest(nothing fancy, i want quality over looks)

or

get an epicenter?

What model deck? Did you tweek with your amp gains for the sub?

not sure what 'sounded ghetto' means unless your speakers were making sounds of gunshots, sirens, and hooker solicitations but it sounds like you screwed up by going to a shit ass shop. My advice, start over.

You somewhat local, bring it up and I will help you with the install for "free". Free as in you have to pay for any parts and you supply the beer.

I'd also recommend not going back to the stock HU. Save up some money and get something that has the functions that you want (iPod controls, video playback, whatever) and buy that and install it.

Personally, I am not a fan of Sony's car audio products. Once the ES line went away, they really have gone all flash no bang. Brands that I have had good experiences with are Pioneer, Kenwood, Eclipse, and Alpine. I think that the best bang for the buck is in the mid level Pioneer decks. The best all around GPS, DVD, etc capable decks are the top of the line Kenwoods, but you are going to pay better than a grand for one. They are awesome, but not cheap.

If you are wanting something that is decent but on the cheap, JVC's have been ok for me, but the Pioneer decks aren't much more and are leaps and bounds better in quality and features. Just my $.02.

as in the sub was over powering the speakers. the speakers were extremely quite and sounded muddy/static

oh that sounds great. i just have to find out what i am going to buy first. or what else i need. im not sure if i should go for new speakers too because i was trying to tune the system last night and the speakers started crackling when i got up to higher volumes

ya im not going back to the stock head unit becuase then i would have to reinstall the old JBL amp and that defeats the whole purpose of me getting this stuff done in the first place.

yea i meant i want a good sound quality head unit. but i dont need a fancy flashy HU with NAV,DVD,screen, porn or whatever else

The JBL sytem is total SHIT!! Its a bunch of proprietary crap that that you need to remove completely like a cancer.
I removed the entire system and replaced with:
KDC x-493 Kenwood head unit. (The bluetooth adapter for this has falied twice so while I really like the head unit, the BT adapter is shit!!)
Alpine Spx17 r components in front
Alpine SPR 17 coaxial in back
Alpine MPR 600 amp for doors
Alpine MRP 500 for the sub.
Pioneer 10" shallow
In a Marv sub enclosure. The box is impeccable. I really wish he could somehow put the $70.00 he owes me in the mail before the next disaster strikes. (poor homey)
Rockford Fosgate dual amp kit
Plenty of Second Skin Damplifier Pro and Luxury Liner.
And plenty of ensolite.
You need to stop throwing money away trying to make a piece of dogshit appealing. Just get rid of the shit, buy what you want online, install as much as you can by yourself and then let a pro finish what you can't.
I scoured this board, Toyotanation, customtacos.com and other boards to get the info I needed to get my install done. Marv was also a big help.
I copy and pasted the threads or parts of threads I needed into a word document and then had my laptop in the garage with me.
Really, Toyota should offer rebates to its customers with the jbl shit in it.
