when they run a check on a gun, do they check to see if its in your name or just to see if its been stolen? none of my handguns are registered to me. would they give me a hard time because of that?

I wouldnt take the chance. If the gun is in your dads name or something, you may get less of a hassle, but ANY gun I carry is always in my name. Just leaves the door open to you getting in more trouble. Dont give them a reason to hassle you. I dont know about the laws in your state, I would do a little research. Here in Cali, all handguns must be registered. It also depends on your permit. Some permits require you to list the guns you will carry and they have to be registered to you.

My buddy got pulled over last year by DPS coming back from a hunt and had all of his guns with him- none of them registered to him. They harassed him for over an hour to see if they were stolen. None were and they let him go on his way.

So did the 'good cop' that was on the scene. The guy that pulled him over was a super-sized douche I guess.

The 4th amendment may not be perfect and it might get abused sometimes but I've been in countries where the police have the power to do pretty much what they want. If they want to search you they do with no questions asked - no pc required.

Thank God for the Bill of Rights. They are what helped to make the United States a great country.

just found this thread looking for something else. I frequently travel to arizona and oregon (3 - 4x per year) and have only been pulled over out of state twice

    1. Roseburg, oregon - 2005. I had a 94 accord at this time. Officer pulled me over initally for no front plate, then asked if i was living in town (had been there about a week) ... i said no just visiting a friend will be leaving this weekend. He told me if he saw me again after that he would ticket me for having "residence" and not registering my out of state vehicle .... my friend said it happens all the time

    2. Wausau, WI. 2008 - Straight up ran a stop sign doing 30ish, no marking on ground and the sign was covered by a tree. After about 30 mins of trying to run my plates / lisence, he couldnt link up to ca's computer and asked how long i was going to be in wisconsin for (it was july) ... told him i had come in early june and was leaving the second week in august, had a seasonal summer camp job in the minocqua area. (bout 50 miles north of there) That part of wisconsin has a high number of out of state workers in the summer time so he issued me a warning for running the stop sign and didnt say anything about my california tags.

With the addition to Smart phones to everyone's pocket, is it legal to record video of the stop or even just audio of the stop.
Most jurisdictions have their squad cars video taping every stop they make and then video the conversastion at the car door.
Is it fair and/or legal that the driver can do the same thing in return?
