    Hi TW,

So I was kind of holding out for the 2016 Tacoma, but after seeing it in person today I am kind of let down. Granted I did not get the chance to drive it but I just did not like how they looked.

So this is my question. I was thinking about picking up a fairly newish regular cab 4x4 and just upgrading it. However the 2.7 stock is weak. Would it be possible to drop a 4.0 with the 5 speed tranny in a regular cab? Would it fit?

Or would I be better just turboing the 2.7?

Thank you for your feedback and input.

I haven't priced either truck out yet.

Do you think there would be a huge price difference? Any thoughts on turboing the 2.7?

I believe URD makes a supercharger kit for the 2.7, I could be wrong though. If they do I'd say go 4cyl and give URD a call! :-D

Hmm? URD is showing RWHP of very nearly 250 hp. The V6 doesn't even make that on the crankshaft.

That would be a matter of opinion/perspective.
If your objective is to win a race against a drag car, then sure, its lacking.
If your objective is to do hard work and not scare people to death, then the 2.7 is plenty powerful as it comes from the factory.

    I went from a 2.7 to a 4.0.

I like them both. But I preferred the 5 spd transmission to my current 6 spd. Also, getting 20+ mpg with the 2.7 was great.

The reason I went from the 4 cyl. to the 6 was for the extra power over the mtn. passes I drive most days. With that being said, the 2.7 held it's own fine, just in a different gear.

Neither are race-cars, and will never be. If you want a raging fast truck, go full-size.

Summed it up well. Compared to a fullsize, even the 4.0 feels underpowered. But it and the 2.7 (what I have) are both plenty as long as you keep expectations reasonable.
