Since I have purchased my truck (2nd gen v6), I have noticed that the oil is scalding hot at the oil filter head when changing my oil. I usually put a 20oz bottle beneath the filter head (where the drain port is) to catch the excess oil. The oil comes out so hot that it warps the bottle. I have always changed my own oil in every vehicle I have ever owned, and I have never experienced this. I realize that it is going to be hot after just shutting the engine off, but I have never had a vehicle where it is too hot to handle for a few seconds.

The coolant temperature always runs in the normal range, even on 100+ degree days. I haven't noticed any valve train noises or anything else that would lead me to believe I am having lubrication issues, so maybe I am just looking into this too far...

Has anyone else had the same experience with theirs?

Normal man. Engines get hot. Oil can get as high as 220. Think about it, if you ride the truck around, then decide to do an oil change, best be prepared for hot oil. Dont care what kind of car/truck you have, that shit will melt bottles for sure.

I agree it should be hot, but WOW. I worked at a lube stop when I was a kid, and I don't even remember the oil being that hot on air cooled VW's and Corvairs.

are you serious ? I mean, really ?

of course it's gonna feel wicked hot

water starts becoming dangerous at 120 degrees

at 140 degrees water causes 3rd degree burns in 3-5 seconds

your oil runs at 188 degrees and higher, and this is normal

Well, not one 3rd degree burn from one vehicle in 31 years of changing my own oil... How lucky I am!

Just let engine cool off before you change the oil. Oh, and don't be unscrewing the radiator cap on a hot engine either.
