Why is it a foolish time to buy mid-size? Whether you like the 2016 Tacoma or not, you can't discount the GM twins all together. Everything I have heard about them is pretty solid. I can't see waiting for a VW or Hyundai. lol

Good points. When the reviews are in from everyone who owns them along with publications like CR, we will begin to get the complete picture. Toyota has done a good job of merchandizing. There is no way they were going to walk away from the 2nd gen people and build something that looked so much different. It is suppose to be an improvement of a popular product. The Colorado had to be drastically different, the previous one sucked.

They are not going to piss off 2015 buyers and make a rocket ship for half the price. Ideally, you want people to be happy with the 2nd gens that are traded in and resold as used cars and the 3 rd gens that are bought new.
That is the line Toyota is trying to walk.

Trucks aren't iPhones. The original post reads a lot like this:

Tacoma's aren't iphones. The new Tacoma is an incremental upgrade. It's not supposed to be compelling enough for folks to get iTacoma version upgrade fever. It's just supposed to be enough of an upgrade that folks buying a truck this year *because they need a new truck* feel like they're getting good value and technology for their money.

I am not buying one because I would have to give up the 2015 I have, or my wife's Venza, or my Kubota tractor. Otherwise, the garage is filled with boats and there is no place to park it. Besides, I know the 2015 can handle our crappy road, I don't know the new one can with the summer ending and winter coming on.

Ford begs to differ... but that's the difference between Ford and Toyota. Toyota plays it safe and focuses on QDR while Ford is more of an innovator and more 'out of the box'
You guys need to calm down. OP just posted his thought process on buying a truck and did so cordially without insulting anyone... He doesn't deserve to have his head ripped off by you guys. Don't like the thread, then move along.

Nahhh, keep it man. I'm not changing over.

Not foolish to buy something, I'm just saying wait. The GM twins are getting a diesel that will be an incredible engine. The V6 LFX may be getting an upgrade to the one that's in the newer Cadillacs. Will yield more power and better fuel economy too. I'd wait and see how it pans out for sure.
That's pretty accurate. Not sure if it was intended to be sarcasm or not, but I agree with the summary 100%.

While true, the 25% import tariff won't be imposed so there'd be WAY more margin for manufacturers to work with. Not sure that would bring prices down but it would allow manufacturers to put WAY more goodies in the trucks or beef up quality. ;)

Yea, but the waiting game can go on forever. I'm sure in 5 years there will be a ton of improvements across the board, but if you need a truck in the next 6 months I think you have some damn good options right now. But I get your point.

Isn't this kind of hypocritical. Why do we care about why you dont care about why he doesn't want a first gen?

I agree with O.P., if you have a 2nd gen in excellent shape already, the newer model doesn't really offer any compelling reasons to switch. But if you don't already have a truck, then the 3rd gen is probably a great option and just as nice a truck if not slightly better. Since the difference is minimal though, I think I will keep my current 13' OR till the wheels fall off, and just buy an SUV like a trail edition 4-Runner in several years as a newer reliable vehicle.

I definitely prefer the look and features of the 3rd gen, but if I currently had a 2nd gen (or even a 1st gen under 150k miles) I wouldn't even be considering the gen 3.

Also: deeper bed, higher towing/payload, no more mysterious drivetrain vibration, sunroof option, HID headlights, heated mirrors...
