I had the JBL with sub on my 2011 and the stock non-jbl on my 2015 sounds better.

Regarding this- "More on the engine... when letting go of the gas pedal it has an unexpected lag in motor revving, which you can hear and feel. I don't know how to technically explain it, but after accelerating hard and letting go (not necessarily hitting brakes, just coasting) I can hear the revving of the engine for much longer then I expected."

Everyone in my fam that drives my 2014 has similar comments to this one. I think it's just that it drives like a truck and may be more of a torque/gearing thing. I've driven x-Terra's and older 4runners and they feel more like a car to me as far as acceleration/daily driving goes. The Tacomas are just geared differently. Some might even mistake a lack of power (derived from torque) for HP. It can also be a very subjective thing. Just because you don't feel the power doesn't mean it's not there. But you also gotta like the feel of what you're driving.

I don't think my 14 feels like it has power in day to day driving. Lots of people mention how it's slow off the line. But if you hit it hard, these things roar pretty good. The get up and go is there if you care to dig a little deeper. But it's not really practical due to the gearing.

I've had three Tacomas from 2010-2014's. One thing I will say is that this "exaggerated motor revving" was much more pronounced in one of the three. They all three were the same configuration and each had a feel of its own. Personally, I don't believe this is an engine breaking thing. Engine breaking doesn't occur as frequently as some people think. I often have to coax mine into it. Sometimes even that is difficult.

I may be wrong here, but don't you want a truck engine to not be punchy, especially for towing as jolting forward would upset your payload.

I really the JBL radio in our 2014 Tacoma. I think it sounds better than the sound system of our 2012 SRX.

Was that when they hung a speaker between the seats in the back in a plastic enclosure? I ask because I auditioned the JBL vs the non JBL i the 2015 a couple weeks ago and found the JBL well worth the $700 premium, That said I have never had a pro system put in a car so my bar is lower. My neighbor has the JBL with the plastic enclosure and that sounded like ass. The newer truck apparently has the sub installed behind the left rear seat.ait sounded much better, Enough to order it,

I've always wondered why it's bad to coast in neutral with a manual. I don't do it, but I'm curious.

I believe that's for the access cabs. I had a double cab where the sub was behind the back seat and speakers where in door panels.

I don't think it's necessarily bad. Coasting in neutral, your injectors still provides gas to the engine for idle. Coasting in gear, injectors are closed if you keep your foot off the gas.

I don't think coasting in neutral or in gear in an auto has the same effect with manuals with the injectors shutting off. Autos always have injectors on regardless of what gear you are in.

Next test driver please bring your GoPro and give us a commentary while driving. We need to see how well that mount holds up during all driving conditions.

I mean I push it into neutral when going down Hills. There is always gas going into the engine. My car only has port injection.

I have had a GoPro Hero 3 for a year. Used it on the bike. Probably permanently mount it in the Tacoma. Sits in the bottom of a drawer now. I am guessing Toyota did not put a power adapter nearby though
