First mod: Street Squeegee Delete

I haven't bought my truck yet, but could someone with a non TRD-OR be kind enough to post a how-to on removing the Street Squeegee. (with pics)

bitched about in 20 other threads.

 

I got a better mod than the squeegee delete you can do to these.

Front end delete.

 

8 bolts hold it on. simple removal.

 

I'll be taking mine off in the dealer parking lot, and throwing it on their roof.

 

So they added a street squeegee, but left off brakes designed in this decade? Interesting move Toyota.

 

You serious? So every time someone wants to mod their 3rd gen it's considered 'bitching'. Street squeegees are a touchy subject I guess

 

What is the purpose of the removal? Seems it still has the best approach/departure angle for a mid size. Still has 9+ ground clearance.

But each to his own.

Thanks for the reply. imo, the air dam is going to be a standard as manufacturers try to make vehicle more efficient.

Unlike the Chevy/GMC, the skirt does not seem to hinder ground clearance, approuch/departure angles.

 

Looks like a home depot lawn edging BS add-on from the 80s.......

 

The all 2nd gen have a 35 degree approach angle. 3rd gen has 29 degree unless you buy a OR then it's 32 degree. Driving a stock 16, I could not go where I took my 08 in Colorado when it was stock. Unless I was driving a stock 16 OR then maybe.

 

GM has stuck strong to the more street "car-like" design for their midsize trucks. Thus, their market share is abismol. I'm filled with dread that Toyota has quietly taken another step in that direction.

For the record, I hold high hopes for companies like Allpro, ARB and Pelfreybilt, who will solve the issue and make the third gen dimensions more trail worthy.

Edit! Not to say they aren't trail worthy, they are. Just more worthy of heavier trails.

 

Because it prevents a TRD SPORT person from putting on a nerf bar or bumper/headlight grill without cutting the thing all up

 

Don't entirely agree. Seems the Tacoma still has great off road specs, despite the air dam.

One is free to mod their truck any way they want. I just don't see the need. Have to do any major mods to my 06

 

I hear you man. Some, dare I say most, won't see the need. But my first car was a 84 Toyota Pickup. Since then I have only owned Toyota pickups. Since the term "SUV" was coined, I've witnessed a steady decline in vehicle capability in favor of creature comforts that appeal to yuppies and soccer moms (not saying you are either) while the cost has sharply increased. Toyota has declined to a lesser extent. This is why I feel that Toyota was the last bastion of trucks that still had REAL utility. Off the lot, the 3rd gen doesn't have the utility the 2nd gen did. The 2nd gen is part of that decline too. Ground clearance on a 1st gen is 11", 2nd gen is 9.4. I just spent thousands to get my 08 to 12.5" at the skid plate. My 84 had an insane approach angle, solid front axle and an all metal body. I can't find specs on it but I dont think anyone can argue the legacy of the Toyota mini 4x4s.

I'm tired of complaining about the 16 or the 05 and 95 before it. I just want my Yotas to stay trucks, not other versions of a "midsize" design philosophy that has failed all the domestic manufactures. My apologies for my rants in these threads.
