I really hope an aftermarket company will deliver a bumper and a grill that will reduce the projection of the front of the truck. The absurd euro-commie pedestrian regulations made the front simply ungainly. Pity Toyota caved in voluntarily, they didn't have to in the U.S. (yet).

Seeing how the bumper/grill is made, I think there is hope.

I agree, that front end is ugly. The bumper looks like a park bench and the grill is way out of proportion and sticks out too far from the front wheels.

You guys are apparently new here. The 2nd gen has at least 10 different vendors for full replacement front bumpers. There are several after market grill replacements for the 2nd gen as well. They have technology and expertise to develop bumpers and grills for the 3rd gen. Several manufacturers have bumper designs in the works and are waiting for trucks to prototype them on. Rest assured they are coming. So, buy a 3rd gen now so you can enjoy it while you wait for the bumpers to be developed.

When do these new pedestrian protection regulations come into force?

If it's some time in the future that means they will not redesign a new Tacoma at least until then but probably longer.

Aftermarket companies are already on it. Check out the background if this pic. This image has been in the N-Fab site for at least a month. Not sure how they got ahold of a '16 but they've obviously had it for awhile.

No. That's been debunked in a previous thread by a Toyota parts guy ( Jeff Lange)

So who's going to be the first to swap a 2015 front end and box onto a 2016?

Not sure, I don't think there is a set date (if there will be one at all, but I guess there will be since the commies overtook this country long time ago). See GTR 9.

2015 exterior with 2016 interior would be pretty sweet.

If the Senate bill passes the new rules for pedestrian safety would go in effect 2 years after the bill is signed.

    http://asashop.org/u-s-senate-bill-would-establish-new-standards-for-automobile-hoods-bumpers/

    "
WASHINGTON, D.C., June 10, 2015 – U.S. Sen. Kristen Gillibrand, D-N.Y., has introduced S. 1467, the Pedestrian Safety Act of 2015. This bill requires the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to develop a rule that, “(1) establishes standards for the hood and bumper areas of motor vehicles, including passenger cars, multipurpose passenger vehicles, trucks, and buses with a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 kilograms (10,000 pounds) or less, in order to reduce the number of injuries and fatalities suffered by pedestrians who are struck by such vehicles; and (2) considers the protection of vulnerable pedestrian populations, including children and older adults.”

If S. 1467 is approved, NHTSA would issue the final rule two years from the legislation’s enactment. The bill is currently before the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation."
