Just finished it up. Used 2 inch foam for sleeping, 1 in for backrest. Found all but foam at Lowe's. 40 bucks. Cool thing is I can access all storage, not so cool, forgot I was going to 60/40 split it....ha.IMAG0711.jpg IMAG0715.jpg IMAG0712.jpg IMAG0713.jpg

I like it. Could you give us more details like materials, dimensions, etc. What is keeping the back from sliding down?

I used basic 1/2 inch plywood. 48*96in. Ripped it to width of plastic seat backings ~52-54in. Seat back it about 18in (up to where normal seat back would be.) Grabbed some outdoor carpet 6ft*8ft , pre cut, and couple hinges to fold it up.

It stays up because I cut out a slot just big enough for the seat latches to pass thru but small enough to take a slight push to lock them in. Could also use a drawer lid lift up bracket to keep it snapped in place.

Got the pads from a fabric store in town, 2in high density on bottom and 1in for the back rests. Dog loves it and she sits higher up and I dont have to have windows all the way down for her to stick her head out either.

Im going to rig up a chest harness attached to frame to secure pup in event of collision.

I really wish i didn't wrap the upholstery before I forgot to make the 60/40 split.... Ill figure that out some time later.

Didn't take build pics because I didn't think it would work out so nice.

Looks great! 1/2" seems like it might be overkill to a small degree but 1/4" might flex too much unless you found a way to properly secure it to the rear seat back for structural purposes.

Another idea would be to simply wrap the existing rear seat back plastic panels with 1" foam and carpet. That way it's not really an addition but more part of the seat itself.
