Alright so here we go with PIX !!
I did like the way my 70 series tires looked better,
I also liked the weight difference although its hard to tell
because i went from pretty bald Yokos to brand new Michs
so Im not accurate about the "feeling" of the weight.
BUT WOW !! These Michelins are amazing SO SO comfortable,
SO Quiet and just hands down the SH*T!!! I got the 75s because
I was offered a deal I could not refuse, had I the option I would
    have went with 70s.

I hope this helps all who can not decide the size, but look no further for an amazing
tire, I can not say enough about the ride, I really think these will be the last tires
Ill need to purchase for 80-100k

ps - THERE IS NO NO NO RUBBING ANYWHERE, full stop, full crank u-turn, up and down a curb etc etc.

pps -I also added dealer color coded painted door handles,
plasti sprayed my emblems and added a stubby antenna, smoked fog light
covers (lamin-x) and KnN drop in.

    Before with Yokos 265/70/16

    After with Miches 265/75/16

nice photos. looks great. I had the same initial reaction after getting my MS2's-- wow! can you report back with your thoughts on how they feel regarding throttle response/shifting? does it feel any different in regard to size?

I added a KnN air filter too same day, I feel the response in throttle is the same,
however I did notice that going up a slight upgrade on my way home did require
more throttle then I remembered. Ive put 180 miles on the car since the tires came
on, MPG thus far seems to be the same. It does feel different but I cant tell, because
my Yokos were old and loud as hell. But mathematically it only makes sense that it
SHOULD feel different. My Yokos were 31 pounds whereas the Micheline are 42lbs each.

I know i feel the difference thats 100%, it feels more weighted, but the comfort trumps
all. Handeling is improved and sharp, it feels great. All in all im happy but do wish I had
these in 70 series opposed to 75. But i saved total $400 by getting 75s.

My Fuelly app said that I went 17.3MPGs with my new Michelin LTX 265/75/16 E Load Range Tires.
This is mixed driving and aggressive at times, I do feel that on slight inclines I'm using more throttle.
Meaning, I lost 1 MPG when using 17 Gallons in my tank. So these tires will cost me approx
$3.20 More per tank lol wooptie woow Im basically paying approx $10 a month for this awesome,
super comfortable ride and Cadillac quiet cabin. $OLD

The difference in mileage might not be as much as you think. Did you take into account the odometer difference? Your odometer will now read slightly low. I think it's like ~2.4% off from stock tire size when you go to 265-75's. If you put 200 miles on your odometer now, you've actually traveled 204 or 205 miles on the road (or something like that). I don't remember the exact calculation/error amount- I read about it in another thread. Maybe someone that knows can chime in. As you said, it may be negligible. But if you want to know exactly, the info is around here somewhere. Glad you're happy with the tires. New tires are such a pleasure. And thanks for sharing you thoughts. I hope to get those tires soon myself.

Ah you're right due to the height change however ok lets say $5 more per tank,
and I tank up 2-3 times per month, so lets say $15 ? No biggie, the experience
im gaining is worth the coin

Actually you should add 3.4% to your mpg:bananadance:. 17.3 * 1.034 = 17.9 actual mpg. Do you feel any power loss going to 265/75r16? I'm thinking about doing this to my 4cyl prerunner soon.

Thanks for that. Yeah I wanna go bigger too but I'm afraid of the power loss.

It's so hard to tell because this taco isn't a beast of power anyway but I know I feel the weight ans it's strange I don't feel it off the line I feel it on a slight incline - but let's say these tires are even a total of 100lbs more than Stock that should not be felt - the diameter being raised I can understand but it's so minuscule that I can't even call it something worth mentioning - I know my tires weigh more and have a taller sidewalk then most 265/75s

Hey everyone, I have read thru pages and pages of tire recommendations, and I've narrowed it down to the Michelin LTX AT2's and the LTX MS2's. I have a 2005 Prerunner and now live in Santa Fe, NM. We get some occasional heavy rain in monsoon season, fairly light snows in the winter (usually no more than 6 inches, often less, and it doesn't stick around very long most of the time), and I do a 30 min commute to work and back each day, so a lot of highway driving until I'm close to home. I have a long dirt driveway that is pretty steep in two places, and those are the places I get stuck the most and have to park it and walk to the house due to ice/snow/slush or mud due to the rain. Anyone have any experience/recommendations that might tip the scale in favor of one over the other? Thanks for your help!

In your position, I'd be asking this question- is ANY all-terrain tire going to get you out of the spots you occasionally get stuck in? If the answer to that is "probably not", then I'd definitely go with the MS2. Sounds like the MS2 would be a better choice all around based on your stated uses/typical driving conditions (mine are great in MN winters).

The ATs are not a very aggressive all terrain tire. As far as ice/snow/slush go, I don't think the AT tires' capabilities in those conditions are leaps and bounds beyond those of the MS2's (although, they're obviously both great tires all around). Also to note- if you do get the AT's, you're still gonna be just fine and not make a huge sacrifice in ride quality or mileage like you would with Off road tires.

To be honest, i'm pretty sure you'd not be disappointed with either tire (but if you get the MS2's, every time you get stuck you're gonna wonder if the AT's woulda got you out!).

Yeah, I realize no tire is going to turn a 2wd into a 4wd in those tough spots, I just wondered if any Prerunner owners preferred one over the other and why, and if one might be preferable for my situation. Sounds like they are similar enough that I can't really lose, though, and they have to be world's better than the old tires I am currently running. If you think the MS2's are great in MN winters, they will likely work great for me here. Maybe I'll see what the tire guys think, if they can sway me one way or the other, otherwise I'll likely go with the MS2's. I wanted to be as educated as possible before going in, I appreciate everyone who has contributed to this thread and thanks for your answer, harpolith!

I should have started by saying I've not driven on the AT's. Just relating to what others have said and what I've picked up on at the tire shops. But yeah, I've come to pretty much the same conclusion as you. Really can't lose. I do like the more rugged look of the AT, but when I spend 98% of my time on pavement, I went with MS2 simply for a little less noise. Who knows, maybe the AT's would grab in fresh snow a little better, but for the dozen days a year that it snows that much, it's just not worth the trade off to me. And I'm almost positive once the snow is packed (which is almost immediately), the MS would outperform anyway.

It wasn't until I compared them side by side that I realized just how similar the tread pattern is on these tires.

Kinda funny... I knew I'd seen a pic of the tread on both tires - so I went searching. Turns out it was one page back in this same discussion.

Hey, I've owned both sets and have the AT2's now and both are quiet and ride great, the AT2 has more rubber on the side of the tire when you get in deeper mud or snow, but the MS2's do great in the snow and will get you some more miles in the long run. I like the look of the AT2, but you need to rotate them every oil change to keep them smooth and quiet, you can't go wrong with either one.

Agreed with the M2's - just a point of reference whether the AT2 or M2's tires should be rotated every 5k. You're Michelins will last forever!

Well, I went with the MS2's, $710 out the door and a $70 rebate coming. They were the cheaper option by a fair bit, so in the end that's how I chose between the two. I'm good about getting my tires rotated so I expect to enjoy them for many miles. Thanks for everyone's input!
