'09 Taco - Can't Install SWI. Blu Logic Conflict?

I just replaced my dead OEM head unit with an Alpine HU. It works great. But ... I have tried to install three different PAC-Audio SWI-RC steering wheel interface units. Each one was unable to set the steering wheel button interfaces.

What happens is this: when I turn on the accessory power the SWI led blinks 8 times, which is correct for the Taco. But, when I click the program button the led turns on but then proceeds to flash random blink sequences. It does not recognize any of the buttons.

I have carefully soldered each connection and have even run a separate ground wire to the battery negative post, but not joy. Per PAC-Audio's suggestion I have checked the resistance between ground and Pin 8 of the SWI jack. Each button produced a distinctly different ohm value which indicates a good connection between the SW and the jack.

The only thing that is different with my Taco is that it came with the Blu Logic BlueTooth add on which worked OK with the OEM radio. What is suspicious is that the SWI jack has eight wires instead of the three wires in the normal Taco.

So, have any of you successfully installed a SWI when Blu Logic is also installed? This is driving me nuts. I can't believe that I have received three defective SWI-RC units.

I have the same exact problem man. I just made a post about this too. Like i set it to program 8 or whatever and than when i try to program the steering wheel controls i get no luck. Its driving me crazy. I have the white wire going to pin 7 and the white/black wire going to pin 8 which is what the directions state but no luck

Good news!! I was finally able to get the SWI programmed. I almost got it done yesterday, but only 4 of the 5 buttons worked. But, when I reset the unit and started over I couldn't get anything to work. So, I just put the HU back in the dash and left the SWI hanging in the cab.

Today I was running some errands. While waiting for a red light to change, I clicked the SWI button and the led light stayed on (like it is supposed to do). I was able to program the volume up and down buttons before the light changed. Hmmm, does this mean that engine must be running for the programming to work?

When I got home, I retried programming with just the Acc power on and experienced the same failures as before. So, I started the engine and waited about 5 minutes to everything to settle. I clicked on the SWI button and it stayed on, and I was about to set all 13 of the steps required for a complete setup. I was able to stash the SWI unit behind the AC control panel and the buttons still work.

I am not able to say why it only worked with the engine running. All I can think of is that the Blu Logic BlueTooth add-on acts differently with the Acc on versus the engine running.

 

I finally got mine to work today to. I just had bad connections. Works perfect now though. Glad you got it to work. Weird how your engine needed to be on

 

I am having the same type of issues. I don't know if I don't have the connections down right or if it was the fact that I didn't start the truck. Does anyone have any pictures of their wires?
