Did a oil change on the wife's car tonight. Such a pita, it's a Scion tC to low to the ground to pull up on ramps so had to prop up on wood to get on the ramps. Then it has a weird oil filter setup it's a reusable plastic cup that houses a paper filter insert. Maybe be a normal thing but it's the first time I've seen it.

Plus when did doing your own oil change get so expensive? 5 quart jug of Mobil 1 a filter and two wipers was $70. Or maybe I'm just a cheap bastard.

Sounds about right. Mobile 1 should be $24-$27 for 5qts. IDK how much your cartridge style filter is but most places went way up on wipers, $15 and up each is not uncommon. It adds up quick.

Not really sure to be honest with you. I drove it home from mass and parked it . It's a 2wd gmc 2500 . I think it has a 5.0 .

I change my oil at Toyota usually. It's $29.99 out the door, and when I do it myself it's closer to $40+

Tundra takes 8 quarts ,have to drop the skid plate and has a pain in the ass cartridge filter too!
Very messy and involved night and day from the Limo!
As i don't wheel it i added a Fumato valve to the oil pan to make it a little easier.

FJ is easy as hell. My skids have a hole for the drain. The 1gr has the greatest oil filter placement of all time

I've found with coupons it's almost always about the same to get the T4R's oil changed at toyota. I haven't done it once on the wife's T4R. It's probably the same for my FJ too, or cheaper since it just takes regular old dino oil

I agree with Rob, it does sound right. I do my own for my daughters' cars as well as my jeep. I have one cabinet in my garage full of the different oils needed as well as filters. My jeep has an element and the two chevys have the old canister style. I try and buy them by the case to get a better deal.

Denis I had one of the Fumoto valves on my tacoma and loved it. It never leaked or dripped and didn't hang real low.

My wife brings her's to the dealer also cause she wants the paper trail. She makes me laugh cause she doesn't keep a veh till it hits 100K so who cares. It is more convenient and easier for me with one less to maintain

I was going to do it to the Taco but was afraid of ripping it off.
It does make draining it a whole lot easier and the flow is more controlled, but the cartridge filter makes up for it mess wise.

Keep your eye on Rock Auto, they frequently do closeouts on wipers. My last set of Bosch Icons cost me $3/ea. They do generic brand closeouts that are under $1/ea.
Same with the Ferd. Technically I don't 'have' to drop the skid plate but the drain points weren't very well lined up. It's either drop the skid or drip oil for the first few miles after an oil change. I usually take off the front air dam thing also, makes it easier to get at the filter.

I just spent a couple of beers time looking thru jeep forums for how to have the lows stay on with the highs as well as the fogs on with the lows. All I got was wanna be lawyers posting and arguing that they are right about it being unlawful. All the op's asked very simple questions and they blew it up to liability issues in one page. I just finished changing my side marker lights to side directionals. I hope the Jeep Lighting Police don't find out

I did my own oil on the '11 recently and was really impressed with the AP skid--they positioned the hole perfectly so the oil shoots right down and through to your drain pan

Billy, it's funny how different forums from other makes really are. I joined an F150 forum and it's all bros, haha. I don't spend a lot of time over there, some of the crap posted over there is just stupid. I got chided because I made a comment about 'not being that guy' and dropping HIDs into a reflector housing.
