There are no USB plugs in the truck. Just 2 12v cig plugs in front and 1 in back. The USB slot on the stereo system does not charge a phone.

    Anyone else notice this?

I don't think it's meant for charging solely. I think it just maintains the battery level so you won't drain your battery. In my Camry this is the case. I have aftermarket usb chargers in my taco.

Edit: assuming you're talking about a newer stock Tacoma.

Which is fine with me. My phone uses more battery with GPS than a USB can keep up with.

The USB has never been meant to charge phones. Mine can be plugged in and not in use and still drops battery life.

    It's for music.

The USB in my wife Highlander will charge a phone. but it will take a lot longer to charge. Does your phone have Qi charging capability?

    Okay.

    Is Dodge Journey a Tacoma?

There is a thread going over the wiring of the USB ports and it doesn't produce enough power to charge a phone, unless you count a 14 hour charging time as "charges phone."

    I don't.

It absolutely charges phones. It is an audio input but still has to provide charging power in order to operate properly. What would be the point of Toyota supplying a low voltage USB port that did not actually charge? I charge my phone on it all the time. Maybe there is a short in your port?

Maybe your cord has a short in it. I have had a few charge cords that would only work if I have the cord is set in a certain way.

OP do you have an iPhone? Can you play music through the JBL system via USB? Does it say "Accessory Connected" and move control to the headunit or can you select songs from the phone? Thanks
