i saw that episode of mythbusters. Hyper mileing appeared to be a bigger pain in the ass than just paying for the gas:notsure:

It's like the one on my wife's Venza ( they had it since 09) with the sport shift mode ( not the ECU button) It's cool, works very well and one of the better upgrades on this truck. It responds so quickly to gear selection, you wonder why you would ever get a manual transmission.

Beautiful truck, Mike33OR! I really like the color. Also, I understand the rear bumper consists of three pieces; one left and right piece, and one middle piece. I've been told Toyota's reasoning for this is to reduce repair costs for the owner, should that ever become necessary. They also say the most commonly damaged section of the rear bumper is the middle section, because of backing into to trailers during the hitching procedure. The middle portion of the bumper is the least expensive to repair. It would be interesting to know if any of this is actually correct. Sorry, but I don't recall where I heard this.

I say hyper-miling, but I really just mean driving conservatively and keeping it in the highest gear possible most of the time. I have a 2006 honda accord 4cyl 5spd that I commute with that's rated at 23city/31highway/26 combined and I consistently get 34mpg. I do the mileage every time I fill up. I'll be selling the Honda and my brother's buying my 2004 Tundra next spring/summer and will be replacing
    them with a new tacoma.

I'm not a hyper miler but I don't see the point of wasting gas either.

Concerning avg mileage - I don't think 16.9 is too bad considering the following:

    New engine: -1-2mpg
    A/C running full blast: -1-2mpg

All things considered, his average is will probably be closer to 20 on a normal day.

This. With the way I drive, I fully expect to average around 20mpg city once the engine is fully broken in.

What does $700 over invoice come to? How many were on the lot? Or did you do one of the special "pre-order" deals?

I do that with my civic hybrid, get well into the 50s on mpg depending on weather conditions.

I'm already planning on throwing some HID bulb's behind the projectors at the very least. Wish they had made it a bi-xenon projector but oh well. As for high beams I might just put an HID bulb in the high beam spot too but might get an LED light bar instead and stick it behind the grill assuming a satoshi style option becomes available.. there will be room for probably 10 light bars behind it, lol

I think you will see a lot of people putting a light strip between the space between the grill and the protruding bumper.

I have silverstar ultras in my high beam spot currently and they work great. I already have four transformers behind my bumper for the two head lights and the two fog lights lol.

If you can deal with it, I say get the 4x2 Sport, The 4x2 is rated higher for mileage and can tow more. Once you get 4x4 the mileage ratings drop 2 to 3 miles a gallon. Also in my car, I get wayyyy better mileage with ethanol free gas if you can find it. Typically a 2 to 3 mile per gallon boost.

My 2006 Mustang GT is rated for 17 city/24 Highway, and I manage to get 20 city/28 Highway, roughly. Anything is possible if you work the manual right.

I like that the parking / emergency brake is hand actuated rather than foot.
