I did forget to ask that by adding preload to the 700# pound springs, wouldn't I be making the ride stiffer , more harsh ?
I do have a top plate spacer on now made by Suspension Maxx , it's the Maxx stack , it gives me 2.5" of lift. Should I keep it and add less preload or remove it ?
I'm using it currently and putting the Bilstein's at 1 click , which gives me 2.75 " lift .
Little more info here , to help understand how to answer my question.
I'm currently running the stock springs , Bilstein's set at 1 , I have full armor , winch , tools, rtt, swing out .... Weight .
I've decided to punish my finances and upgrade after doing a 400+ mile off road overland trip . I noticed that my truck was probably doing 1 1/2 to 2 bounces as compared to another truck I was following That was just doing 1 bounce. Squishy , and my bump stops were hitting at times that I don't think they should have been. This over bounce , wears on ya after a few hours. I'd start out fresh and feeling good in the morning , and by lunch I was ready for a nap
The guy I was following didn't bounce as much, he was running Dakars in the rear with ome shocks.
I got the Kings because I stumbled on the Group buy on the last day of the offer with Down South. Threw on the Dakars and 6100 Billy's for the rear.
I searched for a month , read until my head hurt. Figured I couldn't go wrong with any of the big name brands, but the sale price made my mind.
Haven't received my parts yet , but I was wanting to know what to expect and how to best proceed.

I still have my stock suspension, I'm sitting on a 2.5'' leveling kit, and about 30,000 miles out from 100,000.

Should I be looking to replace every thing at once, or do I have time to buy and replace over time?

Annnnd does the Camburg UCA fit over the King front coills?

The Kings will work with factory uca's.

 

Unless you got the extended travel version or don't plan on running the standard version above ~2" of lift.. Either way I'd get aftermarket UCA's as ASAP as possible.

When you guys say extended travel version (I've seen it a few times on this thread and another) are you talking from the factory?

I bought the truck used, from a non toyota dealer.. with 21,000 miles on it from an older guy who used it to get his groceries in the winter..

So long as the camburgs fit, which is what I'm getting from what I've read.

Extended travel is an extra inch of down travel, versus the factory amount of travel

 

When Fox, King, Icon etc build the coilovers, they install a spacer inside the shock body that allows the rod to only extend a certain amount. The 'extended travel' coilovers simply have the spacer removed, which allows the rod to extend further which translates to more droop at the wheel.

You'll definetly want to skip that front spacer. I understand what you're trying to do with less preload, but there will be way too much down travel and your CVs and ball joints will bind up. You would essentially be extending the shock another 1.50". I think with the weight you have you'll be happy with with the 700 pounders and adjusted to 2.5-3.0". I'm running 650lb springs on my Icons with no added weight and very happy.

So just for clarity....let's say I set my kings at one setting thinking that's where I like them and get my alignment....then a month down the road I decided I wanna try a different setting do I have to get another alignment or should it be good still?

 

Changing the ride height will change your alignment numbers, mainly the camber. So technically yes, but if your only doing minor adjustments I'd say your fine. Find a place that offers a lifetime alignment..tires plus does it for $160 and you can take it in as much as you want as long as you own the truck. Firestone also offers this.

If your talking about a setting related to you ride height then yes you will need to get an alignment afterwards, however if your talking about changing a setting ok your compression adjusters then no you won't need an alaignment after.

 

Another FYI. Changing the rear ride height also affects your front end alignment.

 

For me: it's the best of both worlds. Sports car like handling when I snap the wheel to avoid an idiot or take a fast corner; softer handling when I hit washboard and lots of pot holes.

I haven't tried progressive valving in town, but I'm very happy with that initial spike in dampening force. Anyone near Philly with Progressive shocks want to go for a ride?
