The Bachelor annex is fully enclosed - 4 walls and a floor. The best use of the annex is when the tents are actually mounted on the roof, when mounted lower it's just a pain due to lack of head space and saggy walls.
I love my Bachelor and only wish I would have gotten the Shasta when I forget to shake the rain off of the fly before stepping on the ladder...icy waterfall right down your back every time. I like to be able to see out of the tent 360 and having the Shasta would prevent that so the Bachelor is fine.

I'm just slightly paranoid about being able to see since I tend to have lots of animals wandering trough camp. I like to know what's out there before I exit

Oh id be mounting on my allpro pack rack which is cut to cab height. It would sit about 4" lower than if it were mounted on roof bars... you think the annex would fit well then? My rear is also lifted 3+" as well so that helps i think

That should make it fit perfectly. Mine is a few inches above the roof and stretches a bit.

That big bag doesn't want to fold. But I like it anyway.

Tepui is what I have. I am very happy with the company and the help I received when I purchased. Got a great deal (I live near the store) and help installing it.
Never mind all the peeps are pretty cool people who love what they do.

That would probably work. When I had my tent on my truck it was not quite 5' off the ground and the annex walls always sagged so water pooled up. I was more concerned about fitting in my garage door so had the rack built low. Now that my tent is on the roof of my Runner the annex is more functional.

I have a cvt mt Cayley which is the little brother of the Shasta. I went with cvt because they were cheaper and unless you were going for one of the rugged kinds, I don't see much difference besides color. I know both are awesome. Another reason that went into it was that the Cayley was the smallest tent with an annex. Tepui doesn't make one like it. I'm running it on top of an access cab so I needed it to be small.

Plenty of discussion in this very thread. Similar products, folks seem happy with both brands.

I support Tepui wholeheartedly. Their customer service is fantastic. Like ian408 I am nearby their HQ and bought the tent right from their shop, had help installing and explanations of all the features. I've yet to have any issues, but I'm confident that I would be treated well if I needed assistance.

Tepui puts a lot of effort into spreading the good adventure vibe. They host TepuiFest every year, a big camp out with live music, food and fun, as well as organized group 4x4 runs to cool locations. I've met Evan and the crew a handful of times, at the shop and at Overland expo, and they all seem to be really cool folks.

And, to top it off, my truck is featured in their video on their website :)

I guess none of that really makes their tents any better, but I sure like em!

It comes down to whether or not you're actually going to use the annex. I got a bachelor because i doubted i would use it, and have only ever used it once, in my driveway, just to test it out. With the shasta if you don't use it you're left with an overhang you're going to have to guy line out to limit it flapping in the wind. The annex also doesn't store with the tent and will take a decent sized chunk of storage in your bed. If you camp a lot in the rain I would say get it, other wise I would really think about it.

This... I have my annex and ive used it once in the year ive owned my RTT. Im planning on using it again actually next month but its a solid investment for the reasons already listed above and i like knowing i can change and enter the tent without being exposed to the elements.

I have this exact sleepign bag as well. Havent needed it yet but when i do i normally just throw it in the back of the cab, its just me 99% of the time camping so there aint no one in the back seat to complain. I tried to pack it in the tent a couple times.. epic fail lol. I just pack it in the compression bag and just use it when i need it. It doesnt take a terrible amount of space up.

Just like everyone else, I bought a Tepui because they have a lot of positive reviews and they're somewhat local to me. I was able to have them install my tent on my way down to south for some camping in San Luis Obispo. I'm sure CVT and other brands are just as great but I do like to support local when I can and I did save some money by picking up the tent from their warehouse.

Since you're in Socal, it wouldn't be that bad of a drive to come up to the Tepui HQ, pick up a tent, and hit up some camping on the back down (Big Sur comes to mind).

That means that the moving load capacity is 200. The stationary capacity is never listed but is a lot more. Prinsu rates his racks capacity at 200 but it can hold At least 400 stationary. My tent weighs 100, I weigh 210 and my girlfriend is probably around 120 and we had no issues.

Manufacturers have to be careful because if a rack were to fail on the highway it would be a lot of liability. I personally have driven with 350 lbs of steel on my rack. Would I do it often, no. The vehicle handles different and people are hard to predict on the roadway. Can the rack handle it, yes. Can the OEM threaded inserts on the roof handle an abrupt stop or swerving maneuver and the shear force that 350 lbs of materials with that type of momentum would have on them, probably not. Can the rack handle 500 lbs plus sitting stationary, no doubt. I do it all the time with my roof top tent and our family.

Yeah, it definitely needs all the mounting points you can get. I actually added one to the access cab. Figured since people are drilling anyway they might as well make it a bit stronger. Eliminating a mounting point doesn't seem to make sense to me especially since it is already there.

There are lots of good racks out there. I developed and built mine for a reason, but there are definitely a lot of good options. There are some threads out there somewhere debating racks that will give you good info.
