    I'll let you know when I do my next oil change, been considering getting a new one since the drain bolt is such a PITA to try to get out on the installed one right now. I recall asking and being quoted $40-$50 for it but that was well over a year ago

    Meh, replacing the filter cap along with entire housing the holds the filter media would be the true equivalent of the old system.

    It cleans pretty easy and I'm neurotic about it so it gets a good scrubbin. There are more and more manufacturers going back to this design because it generates less waste

    Ah sounds just like when I had my '10 Tundra. I bought the "specialty tool" from Pep Boys. Worked just like it was supposed too. The only bad part was the skid plate

    I think thats better for evacuating the particulates away from the engine when changing the filter. My girlfriends Saturn has the canister filter cap above and facing up. It doesn't drain when you open it like in above video. Makes me think a lot of crap gets reintroduced to the internals after a filter change. No matter how well you clean it.

    Now why would I want to do that? The filter cap is plastic and the drain bolt is aluminum. If I attempt to loosen the drain bolt the whole filter cap comes loose. I'd have to put it in a vise or clamp it down after I've already got it out so at that point why bother trying to get the drain bolt out. It's in there, it's not leaking so I don't see putting in the effort to get it out. Last thing I want to do is break the damn thing and be sitting there needing the part and unable to drive to get it

    My wife's iQ has the same thing. Not bad, plastic drain pushed in and pulled out fine. Used a squirt of brake cleaner to clean the canister. No mess. Fast and easy!

    What is the point of this canister filter bullshit, anyway? I tried to get this thing open on my wife's 2008 RAV4 once....never worked. Who sells the tool that you need to open this beast?

    My wife has an 1999 Lexus RX300. The filter is right next to the exhaust manifold and I have to take about 12 bolts off for the under shield to get at it. . I curse Toyota every time I change it..lol
