Has anybody tried any fasteners for attaching plastic body parts, such as bumpers or wheel well baffles that are better and more durable than those black plastic POS tacks that come with the vehicle?

I hit a deer some time ago and every single one of those from the front bumper broke.

I wonder if it is possible to use a fat low duty bolt with a nut and a huge washer instead, which would rely on threaded torque, however low, instead of that crappy system of pushing a tack in its anchor that breaks on the smallest of shock.

I tore up the two in the middle taking my cover off one time. Used a couple short bolts and nylock nuts for those two spots. You can get the proper clips in bulk for cheap on ebay.

The one on the end is supposed to be an actual screw I believe.

I know but I tore the screw hole when I hit the deer, now I need to fix it with a nut so I might as well use the same solution in every hole. They could have done a better job designing their tupperware...

Christmas tree fasteners work fine. Do they break..yes they can and do but they don't rust or cause rust on metal portions they attach to. You know maybe a Toyota isn't your forte. You are always negative on just about everyone of your posts. Just an observation.

I assumed those fasteners were meant to break, instead of breaking the mounting holes of the bumper and other pieces instead.

Fasteners are cheap and easy to replace.. a painted bumper cover is not so much.
