The 3.5l girly motor blows up in a dramatic Hollywood-esque explosion. Guess he didn't read the owner's manual saying no towing before 500 miles.

I've pretty much given up on those dreams. I'll just keep driving my car to the track, been fine so far. Just put 900 miles on it

Got tired of wading through posts and came to end. OP, have you found a solution yet? This has probably been said but while it may be a lot more fun to tow with a Tundra, I don't see why the Tacoma can't tow near or at capacity when properly equipped.

No one has towed with it is my conclusion.

1 group says it will be fine

Other group says these trucks can barely tow a lawn mower

    Read jberry's post.

Midsize trucks for midsize loads.. I'd never tow a car regularly without a full size, or a travel trailer for that matter either.

Will only be 3-4 times per year at most, hardly what I would call "regularly"

    I said "I'd.."

3-4 times a year and I wouldn't really think too much about it aside from getting it properly setup.

    Oh- you got me!

Peachy- Customer service and appreciation is something Toyota has built into their brand since they were just a loom manufacturer. That's why I'm buying a brand new Tacoma, and why my parents and siblings own Toyotas.

The point is, somebody somewhere has to pay for it, and maybe, juuuuuust maybe, there are conversations to which you are not privy where someone requests some research into what happens when a major component fails. Oh wait, that's actually a staple of Toyota Manufacturing called "Genchi Genbutsu". Or, maybe the people who own the business where you work just say, "fuck it", we'll straight up eat thousands of dollars without asking one question. Oooooor, maybe the daily tasks you perform at the one place where you spend your day has awarded you the sum total of all business, manufacturing, legal, and accounting knowledge in the universe. Guidelines are purposefully included in the owner's manual for liability reasons- and that was the whole point of my original post: a person can't make a purchase, destroy the goods, and then place responsibility on the manufacturer when they have specifically warned against the behavior that caused the damage. I found what Toyota's recommendation was for a 2016 Toyota Tacoma (and in reference to the topic line of the original post), and was simply sharing it in case other owners had never seen this before- you know, the point of a Tacoma forum. You started up with pics and comments on your racecar--- it does look great by the way, and you should be proud of all of your hard work. I had a prelude I used to wrench on back in college, and it was no where near what you have going on--- and make a fucktard comment that a person could do stupid shit and lie about it bc there would be no way for the dealer know about. That attitude is disgusting, and that's why I've invested far too much energy into this.

True, the EDR only records during emergency situations, airbag deployment being one of them. Toyota clearly claims to have more recording systems than that, and clearly outlines what info they are keeping. It would be foolish to think that people wouldn't ask the question, "what happened?" if something major were to break down- diff, engine, trans, electrical, whatever. My response would not be to lie, even if I were doing things with the vehicle that I was recommended not to do.

I towed my 1968 Pontiac GTO on a flatbed car carrier with my 2011 Sierra Denali (All wheel drive and 6.2L engine)....car carrier I believe came in around 2000lbs and my GTO curb weight is about 3600lbs. It did the job but it was a little hairy merging onto the I-10 in Los Angeles traffic. No way in HELL I'd try to do that with a Tacoma.

The new '16's have only been out for 5 days, it's too early to tell.

Just before you bought it, did you tell the dealer you tow a car and ask if it could handle it?

I was about to say. A few times per year (also depending on distance) I don't see why not as long as you're not over payload, including passengers and gear. Has anyone mentioned trailer brakes or weight distributing hitches? Also are you okay with driving 55 wherever you're going? I towed a 2000 lb UHAUL with about 300lbs worth of furniture and didn't like it at all but I don't know much about towing.

Edit: The fact that you will be towing this car regularly makes me also wonder if the Tundra is better for you for other reasons. What do you use your truck for? Is the Tundra an option?

I've towed 12k on the back of a 2500hd with a 6.0 on a bumper pull and no stabilizers. Did just fine, I wasn't worried one bit. That's 2k over max weight

Bumper pull? As in you weren't attached to the frame?

If I were to buy a fu size, it'd be a GM. Didn't buy canyon because I hate the 3.6 and the looks of extended cab. Tacoma will otherwise only be used as a daily driver during winter and times that I can't drive my G8
